Moonee Valley Racing Tips
Track: Good 4. Rail: Out 3m Entire Circuit.
Best Bet: Race 8 – SO FAR SOKOOL.
Race 1: CRT/Whites Rural Plate 2YO Fillies.
All horses on debut. No use spending much time on the “form” in this. AL NAFIA (1) has trialed well for the in-form McEvoy stable. DESPACITO (3) comes from that yard also and is a recent trial winner in Adelaide. GRACEFUL STAR (4) wasn’t beaten far in a recent trial at Cranbourne behind the top selection. YULONG MERCURY (9) also trialed well there. There will be better betting propositions later in the card.
Race 2: Sweeney Estate Agents We Know West Plate Maiden 1200m.
KALLESKE (3) looks one of the more interesting runners of the night, he only had the one start in NZ on a bog track and made good ground when not beaten far on debut. He has since been gelded and resumes here after a couple of months off. Keep on eye on any positive betting moves for his Oz debut.
STEEL OF MADRID (5) was good resuming up on the speed before racing a little flat second-up settling a lot further back. Some early decisions to be made by the jock from the wide gate. A watch goes on CARMEN’S REWARD (7) on debut, she hasn’t been seen at the official trials but is well in the market in the early betting. CHAMPAGNE IN PARIS (8) showed a heap of tactical speed last time but was the first beaten, should appreciate coming to the tighter track here.
Race 3: Follow @TheValley Hcp 3yo Fillies BM64.
BELLEGANO (1) showed a stack of ability at her first prep, she hasn’t trialed well on paper for this but that can often be the case with Smerdon runners resuming, look for the money going on as a better indicator than her recent trial efforts.
KARDASHING (2) raced up on the speed resuming, was headed early up the long straight at Sandown but rallied well. Looks better suited around here. BELLA MARTINI (3) comes through that same race where she was well supported as favourite, but she had every chance in the run to win after getting the perfect run in transit just camped off the leaders. She maps well again here and can certainly improve with that run under her belt. LIGHT ROMANCE (4) has good speed also and will either lead or try to control the tempo from outside the leader. Tipping this to be a good form reference going forward.
Race 4: Bertocchi Christmas Masterpiece Hcp BM64 1000m.
OUR LUCA (2) was great when leading resuming, went to Sandown last start, was well in the market before jumping awkwardly and almost dislodging the rider. He then worked to find the front and that early burn told late. He should work across to be on the speed from the middle draw.
REWARD WITH RETURN (1) has won two on the bounce in easier races than this, he will be giving them a start but it’s rare that the pace is a muddling one in a race like this so he should get his chance to run on hard. TRIAGE (6) is a new addition to Victoria, he won on debut before a poor effort at start number two where he appeared in the stewards report. He has good speed, watch the betting for him resuming with the new stable. ALASKAN SUN (8) is another Smerdon runner resuming, the betting will probably tell us more about how forward she is rather than her recent trial efforts.
Race 5: Ladbrokes 55 Second Challenge Ht 7 Fillies & Mares BM70.
MISS VESPER (10) is resuming and is a perfect 2/2 when racing fresh. She has some tactical speed which is necessary in these 955m dashes, she should be stalking the leaders and with any luck approaching the straight finish off strong.
WORLD OF HOPE (5) is on the 7-day back-up after having no luck here last Friday. She was held-up before getting clear at the top of the straight and ran on hard late. KHZAMBA (9) has the wide draw to contend with but showed her toughness with a last start win when being forced to sit three-wide the trip up on the speed. It is likely that she will have a similar run here but she is going well enough. FRAULEIN RUSTIE (7) is resuming and has won 2/4 when fresh. She placed at her only other start in one of these races here and has the speed to lead.
Race 6: 1PRINT Hcp Mares BM70 1200m.
Looks one of the most open races of the night on paper. ANOTHER DIAMOND (1) will roll forward from the inside gate, she won an easier race at Donald last start when leading and absolutely bolted in. If she gets any peace in front with the claim she will be hard to run down.
SHARING (4) is resuming, she has a super record fresh (3:2-1-0) but has only trialed fairly. Likely to be giving the top selection a start but if she gets attacked in the lead, look for her late. SAVAJU (8) raced well through the Country Cup series, the runner-up from that final has since come out and won last week. FEDEROSA (7) has been racing consistently in South Australia, just needs to get in mid-field form the wide gate with cover.
Race 7: CRT Davey Dash Hcp BM70 1200m.
JUST HIFALUTIN (8) may have run her race before they jumped last time after getting stirred up before the jump, go on her good effort previously when running on hard in this grade to score. May need a little luck from mid-field on the rails, but should run on hard.
TOY BOY (4) has only missed a place once in his six-start career, huge win last time when sitting very wide throughout facing the breeze. This race doesn’t look much harder than that. VIA BALCIANO (10) finished much too good for them at Ballarat, he looks to be versatile in where he can map in a race so will have options. Clearly has a stack of ability but this is his toughest test. EPIC MOMENT (11) has trialed well enough for his return from the paddock but the draw hurts. He will have to work to get on the speed from out there.
Race 8: Opus Group Hcp Fillies & Mares BM64 1514m.
SO FAR SOKOOL (7) is likely to be the shortest priced fave of the night in this and deservedly so. She is coming off a good effort at Sandown at Listed level, ran on well the start previous against the boys at this level and should be able to get her first win out of maiden grade here.
MISS ADEQUATE (4) will roll forward early, may have a job ahead of her to get the front and without using much petrol.
NEW GRADUATE (1) was ok against the boys last time, FLO FLO (2) has been consistent this time in.
