Gold Coast

Track: Good 4. Rail: +1m 1000m-400m; True Remainder.

Best Bet: Race 1 – DINNIGAN. I have seen $1.70 being bet as I write this, normally hesitant to take the tomato sauce but she looks WAY too good.

Race 1: Pacific Fair Magic Millions Maiden Plate 1200m

DINNIGAN (10) will be the shortest priced favourite of the day, and why shouldn’t she be! She led and was run down by the favourite for the 3-year-old feature late in the date (and looks a moral in that) and beat the rest comfortably. She should lead, she should win. You should be starting Race 2 with more money than what you started Race 1 with.

Doesn’t look to be any. PROBLEM SOLVER (11), MISSILE STRIKE (1) and BELEARIC (5) all have minor claims. I would say the Waterhouse/Bott horse would have to miss the kick or dislodge the rider to be beaten here.

Race 2: Lexus Magic Millions Country Cup 1200m

This looks the most open race on the card and not willing to stick my neck out with any of these at anything under double figures!! CONCA DEL SAGNO (2) is a winner, sure he has only been beating up on Rocky horses but winning form is good form. HE’S A MORAL (5) has been racing well, was unlucky last start when held-up at a vital stage. PURE REBEL (6) was ok fresh, he usually takes a while to get into his prep so that was encouraging. YARRAPOWER (9) next best but wow what a draw, may have to just have a crack early form out so wide. Who knows.. Wait for later in the card.

Race 3: Racing Queensland Magic Millions QTIS Open Quality 1300m

UPSTART PRIDE (1) has a habit of beginning awkwardly but he has good tactical speed and should be able to use the gate to his advantage. He was unlucky here last start and loves the track, should have almost won last time.

SIEGFRIED (2) has the advantage of being at his home track, has only tasted success once here but rarely runs a bad race. He should get a much more economical run than last start when caught wide throughout. HAVASAY (3) is likely to start favourite but from the extreme draw he is surely to get lost, will have to navigate the huge field in the straight and will need a peach of a ride. He can win if gets it but looks a great lay at anything under $6. SPUR DE JOUER (6) was impressive last time in an easier race at the Sunny Coast, will need to be ridden for luck from the back but can place if so.

Race 4: Sky Thoroughbreds Magic Millions Trophy 2200m

It looks a race in two and the betting may reflect that. SEDANZER (4) had no luck in the Belle of the Turf at Gosford when running on hard from a mile back. She had won three on the trot previously, off the good gate here expect her to settle closer and have the jump on her main rival.

PAYROLL (2) is also racing superbly, she has won her last two black type races in style running on hard from the back. Just not sure she can give the Waterhouse/Bott runner a start and run past her. Include TESTASHADOW (1) and FELTRE (7) in the exotics but I would be surprised if one of the top two in the market didn’t win.

Race 5: ITS LIVE! In QLD Magic Millions Fillies and Mares 1300m

If GLOBAL GLAMOUR (1) goes here she will be very hard to beat. She has trialed well, and will be carving over early from out wide. She was a Group Two winner in the Spring, she will be hard to run down if she finds the rails first.

ECKSTEIN (4) was only fair at Randwick just before New Years, she will be giving them a start but expect the speed to be genuine. MERRIEST (8) was good on Boxing Day, she will also get back but run on hard. INVINCIBELLA (13) has a shocking gate but she was encouraging the way she ran home against the favoured tempo of the race last time.

Race 6: Woodford Reserve Magic Millions Cup 1400m

ARBEITSAM (6) looks the leader, he has a stack of speed and if he jumps away from the inside should have no trouble holding the lead. He was only fair at Wyong fresh but had trialed well and willing to forgive that run. If he can kick around the turn, there may be plenty finding trouble in the big field behind him.

CARE TO THINK (11) is likely to start favourite, he has been super at both runs back from a spell. He is likely to be giving them a start and there is every chance that the speed will be hectic. If so he will be flashing late. LUCKY HUSSLER (1) is the veteran here fresh off an enigmatic Melbourne spring, he has to carry the grandstand and is drawn wide but he has class in his side. OZI CHOICE (8) will roll forward and may have to sit parked, but he is flying.

Race 7: Magic Millions 3YO Guineas 1400m

Some are saying that the barrier is a shocker for PIERATA (1) drawing the inside gate, but this to me will just mean a bigger price. He was dominant in the Vo Rogue, storming to victory, and with Corey Brown steering, he will only need an ounce of luck getting a run to once again run over the top of them. With the sweeping turn here at the Gold Coast and the likelihood of a solid tempo, expect gaps to open up everywhere leading up to and into the straight.

SASSO CORBARO (15) has the wide draw to contend with and I wouldn’t be surprised if they charge forward form out there. She looks to have a stack of upside but this is clearly her toughest test.

Race 8: Magic Millions 2YO Classic 1200m

Despite drawing horribly in 15, SUNLIGHT (11) still looks very hard to beat. She has very good natural speed and should be able to offset the wide gate, if the emergencies come out she will come into barrier 12. From there she can speed across, even if she has to sit outside the leader I think she can accelerate away from the others at the top of the lane and show what a star she can be. She will be too quick.

JONKER (1) couldn’t have been more impressive at the Wyong edition of the Magic Millions features. He sat 2nd, cruised past the leader and although a little wayward in the straight, bolted in putting a gap in them over the last furlong. EF TROOP (2) will be carrying the flag for the Queenslanders, his win at Doomben early in December was breathtaking, he has good speed as well and will also be carving across early, fears that he will be posted three-wide the duration though. The speed is likely to be a cracker, don’t be surprised if WHISKEY SHOOTER (16) settles a little closer, the way she ran past them at Canterbury on debut was impressive and she looks to have a stack of upside. She will be a big price too.

Race 9: Harrolds Magic Millions Snippets 1200m

VIDDORA (3) has not been seen since the Winterbottom in Perth in early December, she ran on hard from the back there to claim the Group One. She maps beautifully and if she has travelled well enough after going across the country and back, she looks very hard to beat in this.

GLOBAL GLAMOUR (1) is first-up, she has trialed will be carving over early from out wide. She was a Group Two winner in the Spring, she will be hard to run down if she finds the rails first. She has accepted for two races on the programme. SNITZKRAFT (14) looks to have a stack of upside, she has shown good speed at her last two wins. No doubt this is harder but she will be up on the speed. DOTHRAKI (4) likes to travel not far off the speed, if he can get cover a pair or two back, he can unleash a nice finishing burst.
