Caulfield Racing Tips

Track: Good 3. Rail: Out 9m entire circuit

Best Bet: Race 5 – HAN XIN

Race 1: Super Vobis 2YO Handicap 1200m

VIRTUAL INSANITY (2) was great in defeat at his debut up the straight, was held-up at a vital stage before getting out and charging late. He wasn’t sighted in Sydney in the Pago Pago, with a month in between runs he should be primed for what will probably be his last run before the Spring.

OCEAN KNIGHT (5) is on debut for the Haye/Hayes/Dabernig yard and has trialed ok, YULONG PLUTO (3) was ok up on the speed and will have come on from that run. STAR FALL (7) is also on debut and must be respected after a softish trial. Respect any significant betting moves in this, especially for those on debut.

Race 2: BM78 Handicap 1400m

DINNER LAKE (10) was an eye-catcher at his first two runs back from a spell then went to Sandown and travelled wide before storming home over the last furlong. Not sure that the 1400m is ideal but if he can get cover he should be hard to hold out.

SIMPLY INVINCIBLE (8) had been racing well prior to his last start failure at Flemington where he got way too far back and only battled away out wide in the worst part of the track. AMORTENTIA (7) looks the leader off the good draw, if she gets it soft in front she will be very hard to run down. COSMIC LIGHTS (6) will also go forward but he would need to cross to win. I doubt he can sit parked outside the leader and salute.

Race 3: 3YO Fillies Handicap 1600m

PALAZZO VECCHIO (1) has had no luck this campaign at all three runs, she has been held-up badly on all of those occasions. Her latest at the Valley, she over-raced and never got a crack at them until it was too late at the 100m mark. Any luck in running and she will be winning.

SAVACOOL (2) looks the obvious danger, she is yet to finish any further back than second in her 5 career starts. Hard to line up that Sydney form, she will be giving them a start, look for her late. TRULY DISCREET (3) showed improvement in the Bendigo Guineas last time and maps well, DOUBLE THE MAGIC (4) has the wide draw but she will roll forward and is going for three in a row. She will find this harder though.

Race 4: BM84 Handicap 1700m

MAGIC CONSOL (1) was huge in defeat in this grade last time out, he was three and four-wide the journey and had to do all the chasing, hitting the lead late before being grabbed on the line. From the inside gate he should get a much more economical run today and looks great each-way bet.

TIAMO GRACE (9) drops back in grade from black type last start, she took a while to get going but was good through the line. TOP OF THE RANGE (12) hasn’t had a lot of luck at his last couple, he looks better suited where he should get to the outside and run on well. MY PAISAM (15) has been ok at his two runs back, well beaten last time but he was good late and looks suited getting out to this trip and has won here previously.

Race 5: Galilee Series Final 3YO 2400m

HAN XIN (2) could not have been more impressive last time here, he showed great tactical speed to find the front, cruised into the straight and could have won by more than the official 4.75 lengths. He should find the front again and if he gets just one cheap sectional, they won’t be catching him.

CREEDENCE (6) was well beaten by the top pick last time and has the horror draw, but he will get back and run on and looks to have plenty of upside getting out in trip for the first time. MAHEERA (12) will find this harder than her last start maiden win but she was super strong through the line suggesting she will handle the extra trip and class rise. WOLFE TONE (3) ran on hard last start to just miss.

Race 6: Handicap 2000m

SPECTROSCOPE (1) had no luck in the Doncaster Prelude when not beaten far, a similar story in his previous start at Newcastle. He wasn’t far away at his only start at the track, if he can get a cart into it from the wide draw he will be running on hard with the claim.

BERISHA (2) comes up in the weights after a good effort at Group level last start, GOLDEN MANE (4) comes through that same race, he wasn’t as good but does meet him better in the weights. GREY LION (3) drops back in trip after only a fair effort in the Pakenham Cup last time.

Race 7: Super Vobis 3YO Handicap 1200m

A huge field and it looks to be the hardest race of the day on paper. REILMARTINI (12) looks to have plenty of upside, his las start win was impressive and although this is harder, he should get a perfect run in behind the speed. He will need an ounce of luck getting out at the right time but should finish hard.

ICONOCLASM (10) got no favours at the barrier draw, he gapped them to win his maiden two back then had to sit wide after missing the kick last time, winning against the tempo of the race. If the draw wasn’t so horrible he would be the clear top pick. ANDAZ (7) was poor last time but did have a throat issue as outlined in the steward’s report, he has been given a 9-week freshen up into this. WILLIAM THOMAS (6) was a solid winner a fortnight ago in what looks a hot race.

Race 8: BM84 Handicap 1200m

MILWAUKEE (1) has some tactical speed so he should be able to use the good gate to his advantage. Hopefully with the claim they hustle him out of the gate and find the top, he will be hard to run down if that is the case.

HANDSOME THIEF (2) is racing well but not sure that the inside gate is the spot for him. He charged home out wide to win last time, he looks to prefer having that extra galloping room. Expect him to be a big drifter in the betting. BRAHMOS (12) was strong through the line last time, probably has to work a bit harder though here from the wider gate. I BOOGI (15) is also drawn poorly, he will get back anyway though. This is a little harder but his closing speed at his last couple has been impressive.

Race 9: Fillies and Mares Handicap 1100m

Why do they do this to us? Leave us with the girls race to try and get out or finish off the Quaddie! No confidence at all in the huge field, MOONLOVER (9) is fresh, has a great record first-up and has trialed well, SHE’S POSITIVE (14) comes into calculations if the back markers are prominent during the day, MAMZELLE TESS (6) doesn’t map as good as last time but will push on from the wide gate and COOL PASSION (1) is consistent but doesn’t have a great record fresh. Play wide!
