Canterbury Racing Tips
Track: Good 4. Rail: True
Best Bet: Race 6 – KANGA’S EYE.
Race 1: TAB.COM.AU Handicap 3YO BM70 1550m
PICKELHAUBE (1) looks the obvious choice here although he is coming through an unknown form line in Victoria. He was very short last time but won in style after being forced to make a long-sustained run three-wide without cover. Hard to beat as the small field looks to suit.
CAMPAIGN (2) looks to have come back well, he was a winner in maiden class fresh after settling closer in the run. Getting out in trip won’t hurt either. They look the only two, JOLLY HONOUR (3) was a last start maiden winner also at the provincials, may improve at career starts number three. The other two are still maidens, the don’t look realistic winning chances.
Race 2: Pluck @ Vinery Plate 3YO Maiden 1250m
ABSOLUTE (1) could make it an early double for the Cummings team, he showed ability at his first prep although he was quite costly for punters. He has been off the scene for 4 months but has trialed well, especially the latest where he worked home well without really being placed under pressure.
SHUMOOKH (8) is the interesting runner, she has trialed six times in preparation for this debut and won five of them. She is certain to be ready for this. Forget OMBUDSMEN (4) even went around last start, he was never out of bother and still only beaten under a length. He is likely to be giving them a start also.
BALERIC (2) didn’t have a lot of luck last start and was unsuccessful when trying to improve through a protest, he will need a genuine tempo as he has gone back at his last couple.
Race 3: TAB Handicap BM72 C,G&E 1250m
ONSLAUGHT (5) has only trialed fairly for this first-up assignment but that is not out of the ordinary for this team. He has a good record fresh and gets the draw to get the soft run.
KOOL VINNIE (4) was well supported here at a price when resuming, he never got into the race and was well beaten but expect him to be a big improver. ALL SUMMER LONG (1) looks to be improving with each run this time in whilst MON PERE (2) looks an interesting runner, he was great early in his career so the ability is there, but needs to improve. I think he can.
Race 4: #THERACES Handicap Mares BM70 1200m
DUCHESS PEDRILLE (2) was a winner in this grade at the track and distance last time, she gets weight relief with the claim so she doesn’t carry much more. She was in an awkward spot last time before running on hard, she shouldn’t have as much difficulty getting to the outside here.
FORBIDDEN KISSES (4) drops back against her own sex, she didn’t get into the race last time after the tempo was unsuitable. She looks a big improver. ALL IN THE REFLEXS (1) is first-up, she has won fresh previously and has trialed well winning her only two. She maps well from the draw, watch the betting to see if the confidence is there. BONITA (3) has good tactical speed, getting out to the 6 furlongs she should roll forward and will be hard to run down if she finds the rails first.
Race 5: Ranvet Handicap BM71 1550m
REGINE (7) was good against the girls last time, she had to do the chasing and was too good doing the best on the line. She maps well again and although this is harder she is sure to be right in the firing line late.
HAPPY GO PLUCKY (4) will find this easier than his last start placing, he will be hard to run down if he can get an easy lead. DOMED (8) has been consistent in her short career to date only missing a place at one of her six starts. She resumed well and was a winner at her only other second-up run. FEELIN THE LOVE (2) has not placed in this prep but drops significantly in class and should get a soft run from the inside draw.
Race 6: Schweppes Handicap BM70 1100m
Huge stable change with last start maiden winner KANGA’S EYE (9). The filly goes to the Cummings stable after a dominant win at Scone when up on the speed. Will be interesting to see if there is any support in the betting for her.
GENETEAU (6) drops back in grade here after a decent effort against the girls last time, previously placed here in a similar race when the COT was to be closer. Expect her to roll forward to the spot outside the leader. CORDONED (7) had no luck at Gosford last start, not sure where he will get to from the wide gate. PEDWAY (2) will find this easier, gets a soft run but just may need a little luck when the runs are coming off the inside gate.
Race 7: TAB Rewards Handicap BM79 1900m
EMPEROR’S WAY (6) was good here last time, was held-up slightly before making a run with the eventual winner. He should roll forward and just needs a little luck from the wide draw.
FANTASTIC MAN (7) is very consistent and is also drawn out, he will roll forward. They may push on and try and lead. MAGICAL STANCE (3) hasn’t been suited by the tempo at his two runs back from a spell. He gets out in trip and should be fully fit third-up.
VAUCLUSE BAY (1) must be respected from the Waller yard, they change the tactics last time and went forward, look for any notifications with him in regards to his racing pattern.
