Rosehill (Sat)

Rosehill Racing Tips –  Sat Mar 16

We will be at Rosehill this Saturday.

Track: Good 4. Rail: True.

Best Bet: Race 2 – EASY EDDIE

Race 1: 3YO and Up BM88 Handicap 1350m

YOU MAKE ME SMILE (4) is very speedy and drops in class here, he had won three in a row before attempting to lead all the way at Listed level last start. He carried 60kg to a win three starts back so the weight is no issue, look for Kathy to kick him over early and the wide draw should be no barrier.

Tough race with many chances.  PARET (5) was a real eye-catcher behind that top selection last time running on hard from a minute back. He will be giving him a big start again though and always needs everything to go right. DON’T GIVE A DAMN (1) was sent to the trials after a poor effort where he didn’t put in in that same race, he was near the top of the betting that day so we can forgive him that run. MAHALANGUR (7) is resuming and has won 2/3 fresh, he should have the perfect sit on the leader’s but my concern here is that Tommy Berry goes on, he is usually in a hurry and the lead doesn’t look to be there for him.

Race 2: Mauirice McCarten Stakes Quality 1100m

EASY EDDIE (4) is resuming for the Joe Pride yard, he was last seen at Gosford in the Takeover Target where he was narrowly beaten after sitting wide throughout. He had won two on the bounce prior to that, should go forward early and as always with this stable, money talks.

FIERY HEIGHTS (3) is also resuming and is a recent trial winner north of the border, he was very good in the Magic Millions Sprint over that carnival on the Gold Coast where he attempted to lead all the way. That will be the MO here as well, he will need to begin well off the inside. TREKKING (5) looks the only other winning chance, he goes well fresh and the stable is flying. SHE KNOWS (6) next best but for the exotics only.

Race 3: Magic Night Stakes 2YO Fillies Set Weights 1200m

Tough race. No confidence at all as a lot of these are being aimed at the Slipper and who knows which ones are ready to go here? Once again, the Godolphin stable have a strong hand, ATHIRI (4) was good in the Diamond when hitting the line hard behind the stablemate. NIEDORP (7) has speed and was an impressive last start winner in Queensland. CATCH ME (3) was talked about as the best juvenile in the land after her first two wins, she has been disappointing at her last couple but the blinkers go off and she is too good to be big odds. LANKAN STAR (2) was good also in the Diamond making ground from the back. Hard race.

Race 4: Pago Pago Stakes 2YO Colts & Geldings Set Weights 1200m

HIGHTAIL (1) is resuming with the blinkers on after a trip to the Magic Millions, he was well supported near the top of the market in that $1.5M feature. HE was back and wide throughout, the majority without cover, still hit the line well and was beaten under a length. The winner of that race returned well last weekend, if he gets the right cover, he will finish hard.

COSMIC FORCE (2) was brave in defeat behind the very smart Microphone last time, he will push forward and probably needs to get outside the leader and control the race from there. YULONG SAVINGS (4) was super winning on debut, went up the straight last time and flashed late, eventually getting second place in the steward’s room. FARETTI (8) was poor at start one, he was well in the betting and had a nice run in transit before dropping out, he has trialed well since so I am willing to forgive that one run.

Race 5: Phar Lap Stakes 3YO Set Weights 1500m

VERRY ELLEEGANT (11) comes through what will prove to be a very good form reference, she ran on hard there fresh and wasn’t beaten far. She will only improve the further she gets you would think, a winner at her only other second-up run and draws beautifully in 2.

I wouldn’t be taking short odds about her but she does look the winner. MIZZY (9) won her maiden two starts back after a perfect ride, she was ok at her first crack out of that grade last time when up ion the speed. It was a bunched finish which is always leaves a little question mark over the form of the race. ZALATTE (12) won her first three, she was then not beaten far by a couple that have since run huge against the star The Autumn Sun last week, she looks to have a future. ARISTIA (6) was good fresh but will find it hard from the wide draw.

Race 6: Sky High Stakes Set Weights + Penalties 2000m

Hopefully PATRICK ERIN (1) hasn’t had his heart broken by Winx at his last two, this is not his GF but he looks much better suited here away from the WFA conditions. He is a grinder and will need the right tempo, tough race.

RED CARDINAL (3) has been aimed at the last couple of Melbourne Cups, he was resuming off that last time here when running on hard to win fresh. He may have turned the corner and did show a different side of him there. TAVAGO (4) travels up the Hume, he will only get going late and the 2000m looks ideal. LIBRAN (5) also comes here after a Winx beat-up, he usually goes a lot better second-up.

Race 7: Coolmore Classic Fillies and Mares Quality 1500m

COOL PASSION (7) has the wide gate to overcome but she was brave in defeat last week against some heavy-hitters. She had to sit outside Trapeze Artist in track record time, she was beaten 2.5 length in the end but beat home some much-hyped horses in the process. If she can control the race from outside the leader she will be very hard to run down.

Those that read this column know that I am not a fan of Fillies and Mares races at the best of times, but with 20 evenly matched girls here it is near impossible. Play very deep in Quadrella’s, throw in NOIRE (8) who is a lot better than what she showed last start when not able to get into the race, ALASSIO (6) a mare in form after winning her last two, she will go forward from the good draw, and OREGON’S DAY (5) who was excellent resuming south of the border. Tough race!

Race 8: Ajax Stakes Quality 1500m

It’s hard to imagine that with the talent that LAND OF PLENTY (1) has, he has only won 6/28. He has had three trainers in three runs this prep which is not ideal, but fronts to the races for consecutive times with the Snowden yard here. Coming back from WFA racing, he will only need the right horse to follow into this to be steaming home late. Love the jockey booking with Michael Rodd going on and the blinkers being added for the first time.

FIFTY STARS (3) may have turned the corner, the potential has always been there but the Hayes/Hayes/Dabernig yard may have figured him out after two starts with them. DREAMFORCE (2) will go forward from the wide draw and rarely runs a bad race, WIDGEE TURF (4) was good in essentially a two-horse race at Wangaratta where he had to give away the tactical advantage to a smart one but hit the line well.

Race 9: BM78 Handicap 1900m

SUPERNOVA (3) is an interesting runner that has also accepted for Flemington, an import that has only had the one start here after having six months off. He was very impressive running on hard from worse than mid-field. He has to be a chance in a hard race if he starts here?

SONDELON (4) is a last start winner in 76-grade, as with most of the stable he will roll forward and has enough to speed to lead all the way. BAJAN GOLD (10) is another import that has had one start here in Oz, he ran on hard in an easier race, it was a good effort in a race where he wasn’t favoured by the tempo. DESERT PATH (2) was ridden half a kilo over last time (may have been the difference?) when narrowly going down after not having much luck. He has been good at both of his Australian starts.
