The Big 6!

Derby Day was a let-down for the Big 6, with 3 2nd’s the best we could do.

Onto this week:

FLEMINGTON

R2 #2 WETAKEMANHATTAN

(from Champion Bets)

R5 #1 SANTA ANA LANE

One of Australia’s best sprinters and the winner of this race last year. He won the TJ Smith in Sydney in the Autumn before being beaten as favourite in Hong Kong in the Chairman’s Sprint. He charged home here fresh and then was runner-up in the Everest, you know what you will get with him. Get back and flash home.

R8 #15 MELODY BELLE

The Mackinnon seems to have settled in its place at the final day of the carnival, after what we saw MELODY BELLE do on Day 1 of the carnival it is hard to see her not repeating. The Kiwi has won 15 of her 25 runs, sat back and charged home here over a mile last Saturday. Any rain around and she looks a moral?

ROSEHILL
R5 #1 MAID OF ORE

The wide barrier looks the only obstacle for the best of the day MAID OF ORE. She has good tactical speed and will coming across early, she has shown she can do work in the run and still be too strong. She is going for five straight wins, this looks no harder than her last couple. Any cheap sectionals mid-race and they won’t be running her down.

R7 #10 REELEM IN RUBY

Has never missed a place in 9 career starts, she has versatility and I expect that she will settle closer here. She chased hard from further back last time and got closest on the line, maps well in this grade could get out to each-way odds which looks a steal.

MORPHETTVILLE
R2 #6 THE PUGILIST

Firstly, must admit to shaking my head and wanting to pass this race on first looks however on closer inspection realised that we had a potential good thing here! Yes this McEvoy trained galloper may well still be a maiden however unlike most of his rivals has at least displayed some promise placing in four of his five races to date, including a couple of most unlucky efforts! Has been primed for this first-up tilt with two good trials including latest effortless 3.3L win. Really expect him to put these away and break his maiden status with a touch of arrogance in fact….simply must bet up with the opening $2.50 appearing definite value!
