PREVIEWS

Race 7: GOSFORD GOLD CUP 2080m

MARRONI (3) if we go off that old adage of forgiving a horse for 1 bad run then that applies here to this fellow. He was bumped on jumping last start and found to be lame. The start prior in a G3 over 2000 he finished 3rd behind MOUNT POPA and POLLY GREY who both performed exceptionally at their next runs. He is proven at the distance and in the wet. From his wide draw he should be able to slide forward and sit outside the likely leader MAIN STAGE and get every chance to atone.

Dangers:

ESTI FENY (5) was an ok 5th to MILFORD in the G3 Easter Cup 2000 at Caulfield last start. He is approaching peak fitness now and might be ready to do something here. The query is the wet track. MAIN STAGE (10) looks the best of the rest winning 3 of his last 5 albeit it in lower grades. He’s hard fit, proven at the distance, proven on the wet and to be ridden by the inform Rachel King. The trainer is also an astute trainer of middle distance/staying horses.

Betting Approach:

(3) MARRONI: $7.50

Race 9: THE COAST 1600m

OUR PLAYBOY (1) bolted in last start in a BM100 over 1400 at Randwick on a heavy 8. This bloke is a wet track specialist and is set to peak here. The top weight of 60kgs is a task but he has won over distance carrying 59 and placed 2nd in the Listed Cranbourne cup 1600 carrying 60kgs. With 2 wins and a 2nd at the distance this looks his race.

Dangers:

KINLOCH (6) ran 3rd last start in the Tamworth Cup 1400 behind BANDERSNATCH in track record time after having limited room in the run to the line. The start prior he won the Provincial Midway Championship at Randwick on a heavy 10. The wide barrier isn’t ideal but if he can settle midfield with cover he’ll be steaming home again. JALMARI (13) has been around the money all 5 starts this prep including a win over the distance. Her 2nd 2 starts back to the talented STRAIGHT ARRON would have him competitive in this race especially with the light weight and inside draw. O’PRESIDENT (4) was scratched at the barriers 2 weeks ago so has missed a run coming into this. He did beat TAKSU at Newcastle at his most recent run and that horse has won again since. Not overly suited on the heavy but if it gets into the soft range he will be a chance.

Betting Approach:

(1) OUR PLAYBOY: @ $5.50
