Race 5: EMANCIPATION STAKES 1500m
EXPAT (5) was a gallant 5th in the G1 Coolmore over 1500 last start when working hard to lead. She won a G2 1300 and a G3 1600 at her 2 runs prior. She is 3 from 3 when 3rd up, 4 from 6 on the heavy and has 4 wins at the track. Drawn soft to lead again and will be hard to get past now that she’s at peak fitness.
NIMALEE (3) classy mare that won this race last year of a similar prep. She ran a good 2nd first up in a G3 1400 on a Hvy 8 at Newcastle. She should land midfield from the draw and the Slipper winning Jockey B Avdulla sticks. She might just need this run to bring her to her peak. PROMISE OF SUCCESS (10) ran on well again from last to finish 4th in the G1 Coolmore 1500 last start. She is consistent but her racing pattern is making it hard for to win.
KISSONALLFORCHEEKS (6) & ANNAVISTO (7) come up from Mlb with good track form but racing here now on genuine heavy tracks will be a whole new ball game. I think the mares with recent runs on heavy ground the Sydney way of going will be more advantaged.
(5) EXPAT: 0.4 unit’s win @ $11.00 & 0.6 unit’s plc @$3.20
Race 7: TANCRED STAKES 2400m
DUAIS (11) has come of age this prep winning the G1 Aus Cup 2000m in impressive fashion. That was after an unlucky 1.6L 6th behind VERRY ELLEEGANT in a G1 1600 on a Hvy 10 after being blocked for a run. This mare won the G1 Qld Oaks 2200 after finishing 2nd in the G1 Aus Oaks 2400 last year. Trained by the legendary Bart Cummings Grandson, Ed Cummings, this looks a play straight out of the masters play book.
SPANISH MISSION (2) was an ok 3rd after setting the pace in the Aus Cup over 2000 last run. He gets out to a more suitable trip now and third run in he should be approaching peak fitness. The wide barrier doesn’t help and he is an unknown on a genuine heavy track. STOCKMAN (4) is a genuine mud lark who won a G3 over 2000 at this track on a Hvy 8 last start. Proven at the distance but rising steeply in class and weight now is a huge test. THINK IT OVER (1) is a genuine weight for age star. He will be there abouts again but I think the 2400 on a testing heavy track will make it hard for him to win.
(11) DUAIS: 1 unit win @ $3.00
