Race 7: GEORGE RYDER STAKES 1500m
MO’UNGA (2) returned with a nice 2nd to SIERRA SUE in the G1 Futurity 1400m. Is a track and trip winner and has a win on a soft 7. This fellow raced at the top level last prep and won the G1 1400 Winx stakes beating VERRY ELLEEGANT. He looks the one to beat.
FORBIDDEN LOVE (9) is in career best form coming of wins in the G1 Canterbury Stakes 1300 and the G2 Guy Walter 1400. Drawn to box seat again but her negatives are no wins at the track or distance. COLETTE (8) looked an ordinary 8th last start but was blocked for a run at a crucial stage. Drawn soft again and gets J Mac back aboard and the wetter the better for this girl. She might be able to atone here.
(2) MO’UNGA: 0.6 units win @ $4.00
Race 8: GOLDEN SLIPPER 1200m
SEJARDAN (2) profiles well for this race having won 3 from 4, and winning the traditional lead up for colts, The Todman over 1200. Proven in the wet, proven slipper trainer and gets an in form wet track rider who has ridden this bloke in all his starts. From barrier 7 he should settle worse than mid field and be powering home late off the back of a likely hot tempo…he looks the one to beat.
RUSSIAN CONQUEST (10) maybe the omen bet given the current state of affairs. She ran 2nd to COOLANGATTA in the magic Millions and then finished 4th in the traditional lead up for fillies The Riesling over 1200m. The drier the better for this girl and the wide draw isn’t ideal but if she pushes forward and slots in, she will be a chance. FIREBURN (12) looks to be building nicely into this. She is 3 from 4 and won the Sweet Embrace 1200 last start. Proven in the wet but she’ll probably be back last turning for home and have to pass all runners. SHES EXTREME (16) also looks to be building nicely into this. On the quick back up, proven track and trip, proven on wet ground but is up to against the ‘A’ graders now.
(2) SEJARDAN: 0.5 units win @ $6.00
Race 9: THE GALAXY 1100m
ISOTOPE (8) won the Magic Millions sprint over 1200 last start in blistering time after 39 weeks off the scene. She is first up here off a 9 week freshen and she won the LR Darby Munro over 1200 on a soft 7 last campaign coming off a similar magic millions prep. K McEvoy to ride she profiles as the one to beat.
OVERPASS (5) won down the Flemington straight last start, ran 2nd to LOST AND RUNNING the start prior and beat home the in-form FORBIDDEN LOVE first up. He’s proven track, trip and on soft ground. Not greatly weighted but gets noted front running rider in Tim Clark back aboard. AWAY GAME (6) has finished top 3 all runs back this prep with a nice 2nd in the G1 Oakleigh plate behind stable mate MARABI. She’s drawn to get a good run and Linda Meech makes the journey north to ride her. I’m not convinced the soft track will be to her advantage though.
(8) ISOTOPE: 0.6 units win @ $4.00
(5) OVERPASS: 0.4 units to win @ $10
