Sydney Racing Tips – Saturday January 8, 2022
Saturday @ Rosehill:
Track: Soft 6/7. Rail: True.
2:45pm R5 #4 LACKEEN (Best)
6:00pm R10 #5 TYCOONIST
Race 5: BM88 HANDICAP 1400m
LACKEEN (4) won a BM90 over 1400m first run this prep on Mlb Cup day and finished a credible 3rd in a BM88 over 1600m last start. Will likely roll forward and lead this with the only other leader in FASHCHANEL being scratched to run in an earlier race on this card. He has run 2nd at the track 3 times and placed 4 from 8 on soft tracks so will need to improve those stats to win here but looks to get every chance now.
DARLEB (2) having his 10th run this prep and has won his last 3 starts. Comes to town now after racing in the provincials and will need to go to a new level. He is adept on all surfaces, hard fit and has good stats at the distance. Gets Bowman aboard and should be able to stalk the leader’s midfield. AL MAH HAHA (1) is a talented horse on his day but has put in shockers at his last 2 runs. He is better than that but I want to see improvement in his form before backing him.
(4) LACKEEN: 0.5 units @ $4.20
Race 10: BM88 HANDICAP 1200m
TYCOONIST (5) won a similar class race at Randwick last start coming from back in the field. Proven track and distance, adept on heavy ground but has yet to win on soft ground. He rises in weight and meets a few of his rivals worse at the weights here but he is a proven weight carrier. J Mac sticks and he should get an economical run midfield affording him every chance again.
POETIC CHARMER (3) ran 3RD to TYCOONIST first up this prep coming from last. Meets that horse 2kgs better here and has ok stats at the track, distance and on soft ground. That said he may still need this run to bring him to his peak fitness. STARLA (8) ran an ok 4th behind TYCOONIST her first run this prep and may have been slightly blocked for a run. She has talent and a good jockey aboard but she may need this run to bring her to peak fitness and the widest barrier doesn’t help.
(5) TYCOONIST: 0.5 units win @ $3.30
