PAULELE (2) ran a very credible 3rd in the G1 TJ Smith 1200 behind NATURE STRIP last start and was only a length behind 2nd place getter in that race EDURADO. He won the LR Eskimo Prince 1200 first up this prep and the G2 Roman Consul 1200 last prep. He’s on the quick back, should box seat and be hard to beat in this race.

IN THE CONGO (1) ran a close 3rd first up in the G1 Galaxy over 1100 and won the G1 Golden Rose 1400 last year. He is drawn to get a soft lead and at his home track, will look the winner for a long way. He might just need this run to bring him into peak fitness for his main target next week the G1 All Aged Stakes 1400.  MAZU (6) has won his last 4 starts and looks the up and comer of the field. Good stats at the track and distance as well as on heavy ground. However his negative is the wide draw which may see him trapped wide for the duration.

Betting Approach:

(2) PAULELE: 0.5 unit’s to win @ $4.00

VERRY ELLEEGANT (6) a superstar that gets to her Grand Final now and just like stable mate NATURE STRIP, she put in a below par performance in her lead up run and we saw what he did last week. This appears to be a pattern with this training camp now so she’ll be ready to go. She has won a number of features including; Mlb Cup 3200, Caul Cup 2400, Tancred 2400, Ranvet 2000, Turnbull 2000 and has finished 2nd in this race the past 2 years behind ADDEYBB. She’s the one to beat.

DUAIS (7) absolutely bolted in last start over 2400 in the G1 Tancred after an impressive win in the G1 Aus Cup 2000. The start prior she arguably, could have beaten VERRY ELLEGANT in the Chipping Norton 1600 if not being blocked for a run. The only query here is the 400m drop back in trip. She should handle the heavy track and will be steaming home again. ZAAKI (2) has had only the two starts this prep when 2nd in the Blamey 1600 and winning the All Star Mile 1600. He won the G1 Mackinnon 2000 in the spring and the G1 Doomben Cup 2000 in the winter and in my opinion would have bolted in if he started in last year’s COX PLATE. The two concerns here are the likely very heavy track that he is untested on and the rise in distance from a slowly run 1600 to a high pressure 2000 race. ANAMOE (9) won the G1 Rosehill Guineas 2000 impressively last start and finished a lip 2nd in last year’s COX PLATE 2040. He is up against the cream of the crop here and might not be seasoned enough yet for a race of this caliber. MONTEFILIA (8) beat home VERRY ELLEEGANT last start in the G1 Ranvet 2000 and is a winner of the G1 Metropolitan 2400 as well as the G1 Spring Champion 2000 as a 3 year old. She is drawn a bit sticky here in barrier 1 and will be locked away and needing luck in getting a run at the business end. She’ll have to step again to win this.

Betting Approach:

(6) VERRY ELLEEGANT: 1 unit to win @ $3.50
(7) DUAIS: 0.6 units to win @ $5.50

COLETTE (1) 4th up now and ready to peak off the back of a strong closing 2nd in the G1 George Ryder 1500 behind FORBIDDEN LOVE last start. She won the Golden Eagle 1500 on a Hvy 9, won the G1 Empire Rose 1600 last prep and was a close 2nd to VERRY ELLEEGANT in the G1 Chipping Norton 1600 last autumn. J Mac to ride and from a midfield draw it looks an ideal set up for her to stalk the pace and storming home over the top of them.

ICEBATH (3) is a perennial place getter as evidenced by another 3rd in the G1 Doncaster 1600 last week. She finished 2nd behind COLETTE in the Golden Eagle 1500, 2nd in last year’s Doncaster behind CASCADIAN and 2nd behind SUPERSTORM in the G1 Cantala 1600 last spring. She’ll run her usual honest race and notably her last 2 wins have come at this, her 5th run for the prep. PROMISE OF SUCCESS (7) won the G2 Emancipation 1500 last start after a 4th to LIGHTHOUSE in the G1 Coolmore 1500 and a 2nd to FORBIDDEN LOVE in the G2 Guy Walter 1400. Tricky inside draw means she will need luck to get out at the business end. FANGIRL (15) won the G1 Vinery 1850 at Newcastle last start and if she has one more run in her, can be competitive here. The wide draw means she’ll be back or trapped wide which isn’t ideal in race like this.

Betting Approach:

(1) COLETTE: 1 unit to win @ $4.00
