This is SUPER tough!!!
We won’t go too wide as massive fields and feels like a meeting to “chip down”.
1st leg: 1,2,3,5,8
2nd leg: 1,2,3,6
3rd leg: 2,16,20
4th leg: 5,6,7,10,13
$15 gets you 5% of a likely HUGE dividend.
Race 6: ATC SIRES PRODUCE 1400m
FIREBURN (12) this filly is a winner, she’s 4 from 5 and an absolute mud lark with 2 from 2 on very heavy tracks. She bolted in winning the slipper when looking in trouble last start, and importantly, at the start prior, won as easy as she liked at this track on a similar Hvy 10 surface. Drawn to sit 2 wide just off mid field and barring bad luck or injury she should be winning again.
SHE’S EXTREME (13) had no luck in the slipper in what looked a bit of a pinball run. That run can be forgiven but the wide draw isn’t ideal here. If she jumps and pushes forward she’ll be able to finish in the placings. MAGIC (7) has had only the two starts and has run on ok at both suggesting the 1400 should suit. Drawn well, with the in-form Pikey to ride and with the master John Hawkes’s polish, this colt can’t be underestimated. DAUMIER (1) finished an ok 4th in The Slipper after winning The Blue Diamond. Not sure he is at home on a genuine heavy track and he may have come to the end of his prep now.
(12) FIREBURN: 1 unit to win @ $2.50
Race 7: AUSTRALIAN DERBY 2400m
REGAL LION (5) this Kiwi galloper is trained by a trainer who knows how to win this race in Murray Baker and his last start 2nd at Newcastle in the G2 Tulloch 2000 was eye catching coming from well back to only bet beaten just over a length. He ran 3rd in the VNZ Derby and he looks a big chance.
HITOTSU (1) won the G1 Aus Guineas 1600 first up and won the G1 Vic Derby 2500 last prep off a similar unusual campaign. The query is going to be his fitness level on the very heavy track as well as his ability to handle the wet. His trainer has hinted that he may even scratch him if it’s too wet. BENAUD (15) looks the best of the rest after an ok 2.27L 4th in the Tulloch at Newcastle behind CHARACTER and REGAL LION. FORGOT YOU (3) is running ok without winning and would be a chance to fill a place.
(5) REGAL LION: 0.5 units to win @ $7.00
Race 8: T J SMITH 1200m
EDUARDO (2) won the G2 Challenge 1000 at this track on a Hvy 9 last start beating the rising star SHELBY SITYSIX who has since won the G1 Galaxy over 1100m. He is drawn perfectly in barrier 3 to do no work in the run and lead at his leisure. He is a genuine mud lark and gets a lot of ticks here to notch another Group 1 win.
NATURE STRIP (1) is the obvious danger but both his trainer and jock stated that he is just not as effective on heavy 10 tracks. That said this is his grand final and he’ll be ready to go. SHELLBY SIXTYSIX (6) has burst onto the scene in recent weeks after splitting EDUARDO and NATURE STRIP in the G2 Challenge 1000 before winning a G3 1100 and the G1 Galaxy 1100. He has been racing since September last year and this will be his 17th start for the campaign. The 1200 at this grade might just be a stretch considering his 2 wins over this distance have come in a Maiden and a CL1. ROCH ‘N’ HORSE (8) this mare has hit top form winning the G1 Newmarket 1200 last start after running 2nd in blistering time in the G1 Telegraph in NZ the start prior. The heavy track is the unknown and her trainer isn’t convinced she’ll be as effective on the wet and state he may not run her on anything worse than a soft track.
(2) EDUARDO: 1 unit to win @ $3.50
Race 9: DONCASTER MILE 1600m
CONVERGE (20) profiles well for this race after winning the G1 Randwick Guineas at this track on a Hvy 9,two starts back before not seeing out the trip in the G1 Rosehill Guineas when 2nd to ANAMOE last start. Back to his home track, gets a perfect draw to stalk the speed and drops to a feather weight of 49.5kgs…He looks a big chance here in a very open race.
FORBIDDEN LOVE (16) is the obvious danger having won her last 3 starts including the traditional lead up, the G1 George Ryder 1500. She is an absolute mud lark winning on a Hvy 10 here 2 starts back and drops to 50kgs now. She hasn’t won this distance with her best a 3rd in the G1 Empire Rose 1600 as a 3 year old. Can win but the price is a bit short. INSPIRATIONAL GIRL (8) is a distance specialist who has won 4 from 5 with her only blemish coming in the messy run All Star Mile last start. She drops nicely in weight for this and reunites with W Pike who rode her to victory in the G1 Railway 1600 in Perth. She is bred to be a duck so hopefully that means she’ll get through the heavy ground ok. At the $21 on offer she looks the best ruffy in the race. I’M THUNDERSTRUCK (2) was an unlucky 2nd last start when racing in restricted room in the All Star Mile 1600 behind ZAKI. Had he got out sooner he would have made the race interesting. He won the G1 Toorak 1600 and the Golden Eagle 1500 last prep. He does boast a win on a heavy 8 but this track will be a whole new ball game. He is not ideally weighted but gets the services of the in-form Hugh Bowman to offset that.
(20) CONVERGE: 0.35 units to win @ $9.00
(2) I’M THUNDERSTRUCK: 0.5 units to win @ $7.00
(8) INSPIRATIONAL GIRL: 0.15 Units to win @ $21.00
(8) INSPIRATIONAL GIRL: 0.25 Units to place @ $6.00
