Race 6: HALL MARK STAKES 1200m

BIG PARADE (3) was just nosed into 2nd by SHELBY SIXTYSIX first up this prep in the G1 Galaxy 1100. He won the G3 Sydney Stakes 1200 (the Everest emergencies race) last prep before a 4th place in The Classique Legend 1300 (Everest consolation) behind EDUARDO and LOST AND RUNNING. He’s 7 from 10 at this distance, 3 from 5 at the track and placed 2nd twice from 2 starts on heavy tracks, I think this fellow will take a power of beating here and will put his name in lights for the upcoming G1 Doomben 10 000 over 1200.

GEM SONG (2) won the G3 Star Kingdom 1200 at Newcastle when shifted from Rosehill which suited this horse at his home track. Up in weight here and on a heavier track from a wide’ish draw are his negatives but he gets an inform jock and comes out of an in-form training camp. QUANTICO (7) is a smart mare that does her best on good tracks. J Mac to ride and coming out of the in-form John O’Shea stable she will be competitive.

Betting Approach:

(3) BIG PARADE: 1 unit to win @ $2.00

Race 7: JRA PLATE 2000m

MARRONI (7) this Kiwi finished 3rd last start in the G3 Neville Sellwood 2000, on the bog track at Rosehill before the rest of the days races were cancelled. He was 3 wide for most of the race and the winner MOUNT POPA finished 3rd in the G1 Queen Elizabeth 2000 behind THINK IT OVER last week.  Meets 2nd place getter in that race and likely favorite POLLY GREY 5.5kgs better at the weights and from a better draw will get every chance to turn the tables.

POLLY GREY (2) finished a gallant 2nd to MOUNT POPA last start over 2000m on a bog track at Rosehill. She loves the wet tracks and will be hard to beat again here. Her negative is the big weight rise in particular giving MARRONI 5.5kgs who only finished 1.9 lengths behind her in 3rd last start. ICEBATH (1) has put in two top runs to finish 3rd in the G1 Doncaster 1600 and the G1 Queen of the Turf at her last 2 starts. The negatives for this classy mare are, she’s untried at the distance to date, she has to lump a big weight of 59kgs and this will be her 3rd race in 3 weeks. It’s seems a big ask.  HARMONY ROSE (6) won the Listed Albury cup 2000 last start and finished 2nd in the G1 Vinery 2000 as a 3 year old. She looks to do her best work on good tracks and she won’t get that here.

Betting Approach:

(7) MARRONI: 0.5 units to win @ $8.00

Race 8: ALL AGED STAKES 1400m

IN THE CONGO (14) 3rd up now and ready to peak off the back of 2 strong runs in the G1 Galaxy 1100 when 3rd and unsuitably weighted and a last start 2nd to the flying MAZU in the G2 Arrowfield 1200. This looks a typical Gai Waterhouse play backing a horse up at the same track in 7days for their target as we saw last week with KNIGHTS ORDER winning the Sydney Cup off a similar prep. This fellow beat Anamoe in the G1 Golden Rose 1400 in the spring and will be hard to beat here.

FORBIDDEN LOVE (8) is the obvious danger having won 3 of her 5 starts this prep. Her 4th place last start in the G1 Doncaster 1600 proved she just doesn’t quite run a strong mile. Back to the 1400 here which is right in her wheel house and on another heavy track, this absolute mud lark will be a top chance again. The only slight query is if she has another big run in her. NIMALEE (11) won the G1 Queen of the Turf 1600 last start in fine style. She’s on the quick back here and the drying track only helps her cause. The drop back from 1600 to 1400 is the only slight concern as this mare looks to be at the peak of her fitness now.

Betting Approach:

(14) IN THE CONGO: 1 unit to win @ $5.00
