Sandown Racing Tips – Wed Nov 20
We will be at Sandown this Wed.
Track: Good 4. Rail: True.
Best Bet: Race 5 – SUKOOT
Race 1: Maiden Plate Set Weights 1300m
Only a small field to start the day but what makes it difficult is that the three first-starters are all going to be in the market! BLACK SAGE (4) looks the best of the raced brigade, he got wide on the turn and hit the line hard to run second. He maps to get a soft run and will settle closer out in trip.
Watch the betting with the three on debut, HOROWITZ (6) from the Danny O’Brien stable with Willow riding, and the Mick Price pair of
ATOMICK ROCK (3) and MERITED (8), both have trialed well enough on heavy tracks recently.
Race 2: 3YO Fillies Maiden Plate Set Weights 1200m
LUNASNIT (9) ran on hard in a good form race resuming into second, she then was beaten 5 lengths last time but there was another 3.5 back to third. Michael Poy off, Willow on. Hopefully he rides her positively out of the gate.
LITTLE STEVIE (8) has placed at all three career runs, including two this prep. She maps to get a soft run again but needs to improve as she has had her chances. LA LUCIOLA (7) is resuming, she wasn’t disgraced in much harder races back in the Autumn when starting her career. Watch the betting with her.
Again, there will eb a couple on debut in the market, watch for any positive support for them, especially FELINE ADVISORY (5) for the Maher/Eustace yard.
Race 3: 3YO BM64 Handicap 1400m
This looks the hardest race of the day with all eight of them having a realistic chance, the two outsiders of the field are both last-start winners! RIDDLE ME THAT (1) won his maiden two starts back easily after a perfect ride, he then went to Mornington and was beaten as favourite after getting further back. The horse that finished fifth that day, has since come out and bolted in on Monday afternoon.
All of them! PRIVATE COUNCIL (2) won his maiden when resuming after sitting up on the speed, THE PUGILIST (4) saluted across the border for his first win last time in a race that has produced a subsequent winner. TRUFFLE HOUSE (3) won on debut and wasn’t disgraced last start when mid-field in Group Three company at the Valley. A huge drop in grade into this.
Race 4: Fillies and Mares BM78 Handicap 2100m
MISS DIMITA (3) is going for three straight wins, the first of those was at Kyneton against the girls at maiden grade, she then went to Mortlake, chased hard before getting away early in the straight to bolt in by more than 3 lengths. Harder again here but again she maps to be right behind the speed.
HEART OF GRACE (2) was ok when placing resuming then was no match for a couple of talented ones last time in a harder race that has proven a good form reference. MARACAIBO (1) was outclassed last time on Cup Day at Flemington, it’s been a while since we have seen her best but she was placed at Group Three level last prep and contested two Oaks races. She should be fully fit and wound up for this. FRENCH SUCCESS (5) may improve with the blinkers on again but needs to, she will be giving them a start.
Race 5: BM64 Handicap 2400m
SUKOOT (2) has to get right out in trip off his last run, but he should handle if he is just saved for one run. He has a really nice turn-of-foot when needed, he showed it at Kyneton last start but looked to have been all out on the line. He has been so consistent and I expect him to be well backed.
VAMONOZ (4) looks the main danger, he came with a long-sustained run last time to win, he will want it turned into a genuine staying affair and not a sit and sprint. BARBIE’S BOY (5) has placed at his last two across the border in SA, he seems to be getting better the further he goes? THE MALLE MOB (8) placed in a highweight at the Bool last time, he was very one-paced and may be able to show a bit more dash here dropping 13kg for this.
Race 6: BM64 Handicap 1600m
IOWA HAWKEYE (9) resumed with a win at Bendigo, he showed good tactical speed to lead from the middle gate, kicked hard after looking beat to hold on. The race has been a good form reference with 2 horses coming through it and winning their maidens since! If he can land on the bunny again, he will be hard to run down.
ATONE (5) didn’t have much luck last start, he was improving his position and running on when held-up from the top of the straight. Forgive that run.
SAYL (10) is an interesting runner for the Waller yard, he is still a maiden but showed improvement last time at the Valley, he over-raced and looks suited to the blinkers going on. SPLENDID (11) is only lightly raced, she will be up on the speed.
Race 7: BM64 Handicap 1200m
NEIGHBOURHOOD (7) looked a star when trialing before her debut, she came out and brained them on debut. She had her chances following that run but will appreciate being back in this grade. That win fresh was great, she killed them in a recent jump-out at Cranbourne when hanging out up the straight.
SKY CALL (8) ran on hard to narrowly miss against the girls at 70 grade last time, she didn’t have a lot of luck over the final stages and should have almost won. She will be giving the top pick a start but will hit the line hard. RAPIDORA (10) is yet to win out of maiden grade also but has been very consistent, she ran on well at the Valley last time and maps to be close to the speed. GENNADY (1) is a last start winner at Sale when leading throughout, that may be his role again from the outside gate.
Race 8: BM70 Handicap 1400m
WRITE YOUR NAME (3) was heavily backed when resuming at Bendigo in a BM70, he was just off the speed, held-up behind them before exploding to the line and getting up in the last few strides. The second horse that day came out and won at the Valley on Friday night as favourite.
BATTLE CAMP (8) is very consistent and Willow goes on, he didn’t settle well last time but still hit the line well. Expect that he will settle closer here form the good draw. VIGERE (7) has the extreme draw to overcome, he will carving over early and trying to lead all the way as he has done at his last couple. Hit that pink lay button in play if he doesn’t get over cheaply. APPROACH DISCREET (13) is resuming and has been gelded in his time off, he has trialed well in the lead-up to this but may be giving them a big start from the horror draw.
