Sandown Racing Tips – Wed Apr 3
We’re kicking things 0ff with a bang in Melbourne with our first two top-raters offering plenty of value.
The best of the day comes later in the card in Race 6.
Track: Soft 5. Rail: Out 6m entire circuit.
Best Bet: Race 6 – ZARGOS
Race 1: 2YO Maiden Set Weights 1200m
Only two of the nine have been to the races previously, HE’LL HAUNT US (2) looks a good each-way bet here if none of the un-raced are stars, he ran 6th at his only start in Adelaide in their version of the Magic Millions. He was only beaten a lip by The Executioner who ran a cracking race at Bendigo on Saturday, he gets the blinkers added and would have taken plenty from that run. Hard to beat.
WEDGETAIL (6) has been to the races 4 times for 2 placings, he contested some much harder races in the Spring then resumed at Sale a fortnight ago where he was beaten as favourite, he did have every chance though. DESERVED (7) looks forward enough after winning two trials recently and obviously any money for the others on debut should be respected, especially QUANTUM MECHANIC (8).
Race 2: Fillies and Mares BM78 Handicap 1200m
PREPARE TO WIN (1) will probably close to the outsider of the small field but looks a great chance. He was only fair resuming up the straight but will find this a lot easier. He gets the good claim and draws well, small field suits and looks better suited around the bend here.
CAMILA LUCINDA (3) should be able to get a cheap lead here and may be hard to run down, she comes through a good form race (which she won) last time that has produced three subsequent winners. PRIVATE LOUNGE (4) has only been fair in easier races than this during this prep, she usually needs everything to go right with her pattern of getting back. She looks a great risk if she starts near the top of the market. MISS VIXEN (7) was beaten by a star two back then ran on hard here on the bigger track last time to narrowly miss. She has been off the scene for 6 weeks, look for her late.
Race 3: BM64 Handicap 1400m
CHORUS (5) is flying, she has won three of her last four runs and was only beaten a neck at the other run in–between, she has the inside draw and will be able to use her natural speed to try and lead all the way. If she can kick early in the straight, she will be hard to run down.
DALSWINTON (6) was good resuming in an easier race, he may be giving our top tip a start here but if the speed is genuine, he will finish hard. ANDAZ (1) has won second-up previously, he saved plenty of ground when running on well in a harder race resuming. If he gets a cart into it, he gets in well with the claim and will hit the line hard.
ARTY LUCAS (4) is resuming, he may want further but was running on hard last prep. He looks a good lay in the small field, the pace just may not be there. He will improve on whatever he does here.
Race 4: BM64 Handicap 1200m
LASSITER (10) had trialed well prior to her debut at Bendigo a couple of weeks ago, she got well back before coming five-wide to the middle of the track, running home strongly to get up close to the line. The margin was only a half-length, but there was five back to third. She gets the tongue-tie on and should go through the grades nicely.
HIGH RATIO (5) has settled closer at his last couple, he maps well again and was runner-up at his only other second-up run. GOLDEN HALO (4) loses nothing with Theo Nugent going on with the claim, she was ok up the straight in a much harder race last time. She looks much better suited here and had trialed well prior to that fresh run. If the money comes for her, she rockets to the top of the selections. CILAURO (3) bolted in at 64-grade last time, this is harder but he will roll forward and make his own luck with the couple of gear changes.
Race 5: BM70 Handicap 2400m
FUTURE SCORE (8) has had three runs in Australia, he has settled well back in all three of them and ran on well. The closest he has come was last start here on the bigger track, the pace didn’t suit the back-markers that day and his effort to get so close was super.
FANCIFUL TOFF (4) was beaten by the barest margin last start as a short-priced favourite, he will roll forward and look for cover on the speed. The Lloyd Williams team is well supported with LATIN BEAT (5) who gets the blinkers off and POUR VOUS (7). Happy to lay his runners at this time of year.
Race 6: 3YO Fillies Handicap 1600m
ZARGOS (6) has only had the one run back this prep, she got back and basically went the entire straight without getting a run, forget she even went around. She tackled much better opposition at her first prep, if she gets the right three-wide cart into it she will finish best.
LIVEINTHEFASTLANE (2) had not missed a place in her short career before heading north to Kembla for the Classis last time, a much harder race than this. She was well beaten and it was her first go on a wet track, so we probably need the track to improve between now and race day. She will appreciate being back in this grade. GENNIKAY (4) has been very consistent, she will get back but if the tempo is genuine, she will be flashing late. TYSONIC (5) was ok resuming, she has the tricky inside draw here so will need to be ridden for luck as she maps to be just better than mid-field.
Race 7: BM70 Handicap 1600m
SCRAMJET (9) may be a one-out job in the Quaddie, he is undefeated at two career starts and both have been dominant. His maiden win at Gawler has proven a good form reference, he then went to Bendigo last time, led all the way in a race where there has already been a subsequent winner come from. He has more upside than these, will carve across early and the best spot may be outside the leader where he can control the tempo. HE will kick clear at the top of the straight and win, expect him to be well backed.
If the money is there, he looks a good thing. For the exotics, throw in ADANA (10) who is clearly the second pick, he is coming back in trip but also drops a stack in class. Base your trifecta’s and first four’s around them two, add ROYAL THUNDER (6) and WEAPON (7) for the minors only.
Race 8: 3YO BM64 Handicap 1400m
ANALYTICA (3) won on debut last start, he worked hard to lead with him and another paring off, he kicked and held-on late in a race that a horse behind him has since come out and won. The other runner that challenged him that day finished a mile back, it was a real strong effort after doing all the work.
ZAIDIN (2) ran on well from further back than expected last time. Third in that race was Gennikay, who goes around in Race 6, so see how the form lines up after that race. ORCEIN (1) was resuming at Flemington last time, he never got into the race from a mile back. His maiden win was second-up as he is today and maps well. RONAN’S ROCK (4) didn’t have any luck early last time before working to the line nicely. He is versatile, the jock will have some decisions early from the wide draw.
