Sandown Racing Tips – Sat Feb 12th

We will be at Sandown  this Wednesday.

Track: Good 4. Rail: True.

Best Bet: Race 6 – ELLIS PARK

Race 1: 2YO No Metro Wins Plate Set Weights 1300m

Tough race with so many of these likely to have plenty of improvement in them or on debut. CLOUDBREAKER (6) goes on top with no confidence. She debuted at Geelong on a soft track and led for a long way, was headed inside the furlong and stuck on to beat third comfortably. She then was very easy in the betting at Pakenham and sat outside the speed and was too good.

QUEEN OF ROCKS (7) placed on debut at Listed level then resumed in one of these against the girls, got a mile back and ran on well into third. MISS INBETWEEN (8) comes through the same race and was up in the speed, be wary though as she was big odds that day. Watch for any money for the three on debut, in particular PERFECT WORLD (11) from the Anthony Freedman yard.

Race 2: Maiden Plate Set Weights 1300m

COMMUDUS (3) was big odds on debut at Cranbourne, had a nice trail and chased hard in the straight into second. The winner from that race was impressive, the extra 100m looks to suit, maps well and the claim helps.

KARBORS (6) has placed at both career runs, he was left a little flat-footed but kept coming on debut then ran on hard from well back last time. That looks the best way to ride him.  DUNE FIELD (4) placed two of three before going to the paddock, he is with a new trainer here and would like to see some money for him. TOORADIN (9) is on debut for the Maher/Eustace stable, watch the betting with him.

Race 3: BM64 Handicap 2400m

KENTUCKY TORNADO (8) is an interesting runner from the Waller yard that comes south, he won an easier race last start at Newcastle but the way he won is what puts him on top. He was a couple of lengths off the lead before fanning five wide at the turn, looming up and running away to win by more than 5.5 lengths.

THE HUN (4) looks suited getting out past 2000m third-up today, he ran on well across the border last start against the tempo and made good ground late. WRISTBAND (10) is another Waller Sydney-sider, he comes through the same race as the top pick, he hit the line well but hard to see him turning the tables. SEA STORM (6) is very consistent and will keep grinding away, he doesn’t have as much brilliance as the top pick though it seems.

Race 4: BM64 Handicap 1600m

KANALOCHE (10) is taking on the older horses, he resumed at the Bool winning a maiden in good fashion. He was ridden well just behind the speed, although the winning margin was small, I really liked the way he stuck his head out late. Harder here but he maps well and can take the next step.

ANTAGONISER (3) placed in a harder race last time, he did have every chance though after a soft run behind the speed. The rider did lose the whip late but not sure that cost him victory. FIRSTCLASS DREAMER (2) has had 5 weeks between runs since resuming here in a race that has proven a good form reference. He is likely to be in the second half early, Melham hopefully rides for luck and he can hit the line well. YULONG CAPTAIN (5) is resuming, he was very short in the betting ($1.24) when winning his maiden by more than 5 lengths before going to the paddock. He has trialed well, first-up at the mile is tough but he may just be one pit pf the box.

Race 5: BM64 Handicap 1300m

GOLDEN GORGE (5) was good at the trials before being heavily backed and bolting in on debut, he was then beaten by the impressive How Womantic at start two, was running on late when steadied and featured in the stewards report. The inside gate may be tricky as he will get back, I think he will be a drifter in the betting but looks to have a stack of upside.

SCOTTISH DANCER (6) looks the obvious danger resuming, he won on debut then was beaten under 2 lengths at start two at Listed level. He will be winning better races than this. NOBLE FIGHT (2) won on debut at Cranbourne after running on hard, he then didn’t handle the heavy track when going to Sydney last start. He looks suited coming back on top of the ground. DIAMOND IN THE BUFF (10) sat wide and was way too good winning her maiden last time, a horse beaten more than 5 lengths that day has come out and won since.

Race 6: 3YO BM64 Handicap 1400m

ELLIS PARK (2) was a brilliant winner on debut, he was solid in the betting ($4.20) and after sitting outside the leader, he took over at the furlong and was string through the line. The third horse that day was Karbors who goes around in Race 2, so we can see how the form stacks up.

SHUSH (13) won her maiden when resuming at career start two, she was even money and sitting mid-field she exploded when asked and ran away to win by more than 3 lengths. She hit the front before being run down last time and maps well again. They look the main two players. AEECEE DIAMOND (5) will find this harder, he was good winning his maiden last start after sitting three-wide without cover throughout. INFLUENTIAL JACK (7) resumed in a similar race last time and was good through the line, Olly goes on and should be closing hard late.

Race 7: Fillies and Mares BM70 Handicap 1400m

MAOZI (14) looks a real improver third-up today, she had no luck when resuming after being held-up and then was here last time and hit the line well in a race where it was advantageous to be on the speed. She gets the blinkers on for the first time.

CRYPTIC JEWEL (6) was a heavy track winner when resuming by a big margin, she hit the line well in a harder race second-up. Both those runs last prep were good on rain affected going, interested to see her back on top of the ground resuming. SKY CALL (11) gets Olly on to ride and is very consistent, she placed last start her ein a bunched finish and wasn’t beaten far. THE CLOSER (1) has to carry more weight here after beating the boys last start in this grade, he does get the good claim with Teo Nugent riding. She has the wide draw though and may have to sit parked.

Race 8: BM78 Handicap 1400m

BIG PARADE (8) was beaten on his merits last time in Sydney on the heavy track, he sat outside the leader and stuck on well and beat the third horse by a long way. He comes through some good form references north of the border, good speed and should be carving over early from the wide gate.

OCEAN DEEP (2) ran on hard to just miss the placings when resuming and then was only fair last time in this class but did pull up lame. She is 1/1 when third-up and should improve. WHAM (12) is drawn the carpark but will get back anyway, he was dominant winning in easier grade last start after storming over the top. Just a worry that he will be giving the top pick a big start. POLANCO (13) will also be giving them a start, he hit he line hard last time and will find this easier. He handles all conditions well.
