Sale Racing Tips – June 10th
We will be at Sale this Wednesday.
Track: Good 4. Rail: Out 3m entire circuit.
Best Bet: Race 8 – WALKING FLYING
Race 1: 2YO Maiden Plate 1105m
Tough start to the day with the first two maiden races for the babies split up into two divisions. Only two of the twelve in Race 1 have been to the races before, SPIRIT OF GIVING (6) clearly the best of those. He was beaten a whisker on debut at the Valley in the Summer then was outclassed behind star 2YO Hanseatic in a Blue Diamond Prelude.
Where to look. Obviously respect the betting. Watch for any positive moves, especially with McCAIN (3) form the Patrick Payne yard, JOURNALESE (11) for Mick Price and TOLKOWSY (8) for the Godolphin organisation.
Race 2: 2YO Maiden Plate 1105m
Like the first race, only a couple of the 2YO’s have been to the races previously, they both look to have a chance. Of the debutant’s, watch the betting for the Busuttin/Young trained ROAD SCHOLAR (4) and SO LET’S TOAST (5) from the John McArdle yard who has been good at the jump-outs. GATEWAYS (9) debuted at Ballarat on a heavy track, she was well supported in the betting and showed good tactical speed. She should improve coming back on top of the ground. SUNBURNT (12) has two starts at Geelong over the summer, the racetrack experience should be invaluable. As always the betting is the key in these type of races.
Race 3: Maiden Plate 1728m
NOT FOR IZZY (4) has been runner-up at his last three starts, he likes to race up on the speed and will be making his own luck. He hit the front too early last time and just seemed to peak late, his best chance will be to kick up early off the inside draw and try to lead all the way.
SUBLIME DIVA (12) was a tad unlucky to still be a maiden after racing tight over the last furlong last time at Ballarat and going down narrowly in a three-way go. She is stepping up from 1400m-1700m for the first time which is a little concern. RESOLUTE LAD (5) has placed at his last two and gets a few gear changes, he maps well and should have the cold sit on the leaders. Watch for any money for the Danny O’Brien German bred debutant FABALOT (2) with Olly riding.
Race 4: 3YO Maiden Plate 10005m
WILD CHARLOTTE (12) was beaten a long way two starts back before having 5 weeks off but had excuses, she resumed off that mini-break at Ballarat on the soft track and after settling well back, ran on hard to miss by half a length. Walker sticks with the ride and should be flashing late.
WITH EDGE (3) placed at his first three runs before going to the paddock. He resumed here at the track two weeks ago and although there is a six next to his name in the form guide, his run was pretty good. He settled back and was going well late without much running room. Again there are a couple of first-starters to monitor any betting moves, RETELL (2) and HIGH RISK (6), both have shown enough at the jump-outs.
Race 5: Fillies and Mares BM70 Handicap 10005m
PARIS (8) has had one run back for the Moddy yard, she got well back and looked a little one-paced in the way home. She should be a lot sharper off that run, she does have to go up in grade but comes back against the girls. Draws well and should settle closer.
Tough race on paper. WRITE ENUFF (6) rarely runs a bad race and hasn’t missed a placing in her last two preps. She was rewarded with her consistency winning here at the track last time when leading all the way. Will be hard to run down again. FLOSTAR (2) has good speed and will also be coming over and looking for cover on the speed, she won an easier race after sitting up on the speed but wide throughout. DOVES CRY (4) is resuming and has a terrific record fresh, she has speed but may get posted wide from the outset.
Race 6: Class 1 Handicap 1105m
THAT GIRL (1) is resuming, she is yet to win out of maiden grade but has run some good races in harder class than this. Last time in work she placed at Caulfield against the girls at BM78 grade, she probably just needs cover early and should finish hard.
PAY YOUR DUES (3) gets the blinkers off for the first time resuming today, he wasn’t beaten far at the Valley in a harder race last time in his first go out of maiden grade. Watch the betting.
AREYOULISTENING (4) was huge in defeat at Moe on the soft track last time after sitting wide throughout without cover and only beaten the shortest margin possible. PEREIRA (5) is resuming having his first start for the new yard, he handles the sting out of the track and will race close to the speed. Stay away if there is no money for the new stable though.
Race 7: BM64 Handicap 2219m
This looks the hardest race on the card, Quaddie players will have to take plenty of numbers! BIG SUR (5) is certainly no superstar and doesn’t win out of turn, he will find this a lot easier than last start at Sandown on the heavy track. He was well back and only plugged to the line, looks an improver on a better surface.
Most of them? MONMOUTH (8) has been up forever and rarely runs a bad race, he has versatility and I expect him to settle a lot closer than last start. PHARRELL (2) is a last start winner when fourth-up from a spell, he is a veteran of racing here having his twenty-seventh start here. He has a short-sharp dash so won’t want to do too much work. BLANDFORD LAD (7) gets the blinkers off for the first time, he usually gets back in the run and will find this more suitable than last start when well beaten in a harder race at Flemington.
Race 8: BM64 Handicap 1728m
WALKING FLYING (7) has support at double figure odds at Listed level last time across the border in SA, she was coming off a SA Oaks run where she was only beaten a length and a half. She is still yet to win at maiden grade but gets a huge class drop back into this. She is the best of the day.
MAGAZINE (11) showed improvement at her last start, she was a well backed favourite in an easier race and ran on hard after copping a bump and becoming unbalanced near the furlong pole. RIO (3) has not won in more than a year, almost to the day in 2019 was his last victory. He was very well backed in a similar race here at the track last time and started favourite, he had excuses pulling up lame. That weight of money can’t be ignored. NANGAWOOKA (2) should settle up on the speed, he handles all conditions but would need a soft lead.
Race 9: BM64 Handicap 1411m
EVENING GLORY (3) has the outside draw to get over, he is a get back type anyway so you would assume it is of little consequence. He is yet to win out of maiden grade but ran on well to place at consecutive runs before failing on the heavy Sandown track last time. Back on a better surface here I expect him to run on hard and not be so sluggish at the back-end.
ULURU (2) was sent to the paddock after a tough maiden win, he resumed at Pakenham on the synthetic track as favourite at 64 grade and ran on hard to win. If he doesn’t win here, look for him next time back on the synthetic track. COMMODUS (9) stormed home to win a maiden at Sale last time when resuming off a couple of months in the paddock. He has shown the ability to settle closer but just where does he get to from the extreme draw. NECESSITAS (10) was outclassed in town when last in work, she resumes today and may need the run but will keep coming in the straight if it is a genuinely run race.
