Randwick Racing Tips -Sat Jan 25
We will be at Randwick this Saturday.
Track: Soft 5. Rail: True.
Best Bet: Race 6 – HELGA
Race 1: 2YO Handicap 1000m
Tough race with so many unknowns. TICKET TO RIDE (5) looks the best of the raced brigade, she placed in the Gimcrack back in the Spring on debut and has trialed well for this resuming run. Watch the betting for any significant moves for those on debut, in particular RULERSHIP (3) who has trialed well for the Snowden’s, stablemate MOUNT FUJI (2) and MISSION RIVER (1) who has won a trial for Gerald Ryan recently at home at Rosehill.
Race 2: Highway Class 2 Handicap 1100m
EXPELLABLE (3) has very good speed, he was nabbed late after leading at Tamworth when resuming and the led all the way at Mudgee last time in an easier race when he was backed as if there was no settling. Gets a good draw and the 3kg claim, he will look the winner at some stage in the straight.
MR WONG (1) is resuming and was a winner when fresh last prep, he was off the map last start at Scone in an easier race and was very wayward in the run home. A minor gear change may have resolved that issue. EUROSAY (2) is on a quick back-up after placing at Wagga on Tuesday, Nash takes the ride. KNOW WHERE TO LOOK (9) has the inside gate and should get a cheap run, she was poor last time at scone when well backed but with the tongue tie and winkers going on, I suggest there may have been some issues.
Race 3: Highway Class 2 Handicap 1100m
CONSPIRATOR (3) won for the first time out of maiden grade last start, he was mid-field and ran on hard to win comfortably. Nash rides and should get a soft run on the rails, look for him late.
HELLENISM (2) was brilliant winning when resuming last time, she was last and over-racing before running on hard between runners late. Should settle closer here from the wide gate. BLITZAR (6) looked to just run out of condition last start when resuming, he loomed up to win but faded late and should be better for the run. MR ALOYSIUS (7) is a last start maiden winner when leading all the way, it was a nice effort after running them along to stick on so well late.
Race 4: BM88 Handicap 2000m
DASIYR (1) made it a perfect 3/3 when racing second-up here at the track last time in an easier race. He settled well back in the field and was way too good to the line winning narrowly but comfortably. He should appreciate the extra trip and the big track here suits.
Only a small field but it looks a very open race on paper. MUSHAIREB (2) is a last start winner after they notified of a change of tactics and led all the way. Has to step up to the 2000m from 1550m last time, but if he gets a soft lead with Nash taking the ride, will be hard to run down. Is a dual acceptor with the next race so look to see where they place him. GUISE (7) raced up on the speed last time but was one of the first beaten, she looks suited coming back in trip. MATOWI (5) was runner-up to the top pick last time and is racing consistently, he ran on as good as the winner after a chequered passage but doesn’t have as good of an SP profile. Look for him late.
Race 5: BM88 Handicap 1600m
MUGATOO (9) is an interesting runner for the Kris Lees stable, he is having his first Australian run and was a winner fresh last prep in the UK, albeit over 3000m. The wraps are good and the trial was good enough, would need to see some money for him though as he may need further.
ALL TOO SOON (6) likes to race on the speed and maps well to get the cold sit on the leaders here, she was good resuming after doing all the work three-wide without cover. Love the jockey change too with Collett replacing Brock Ryan. If there is no money for the top pick, don’t have this one going around a loser.
MUSHAIREB (3) is a last start winner after they notified of a change of tactics and led all the way. Has to step up to the 2000m from 1550m last time, but if he gets a soft lead with Nash taking the ride, will be hard to run down. Is a dual acceptor with the previous race so look to see where they place him. TORYJOY (2) will also be looking for the top so it will be interesting to see who lobs there, she handles the soft going well and races well here at the track.
Race 6: Fillies and Mares BM78 Handicap 1600m
HELGA (3) was very heavily backed last start when winning a similar race here last start. Connections notified that she would be ridden closer, she sat up outside the lead before taking over in the straight and winning comfortably. She has to carry the extra weight off that run but looks to control the race again up outside the speed.
TO YOUR HEALTH (8) led for a long way against the boys last start, she will go forward again and looks better suited back against her own sex. SELES (9) is a dual-acceptor, she has enough tactical speed to use the inside gate to her advantage and should have the cold sit. HOKKAIDO MISS (7) has the blinkers off for the first time, she has trialed well and has placed at both her previous first-up runs.
Race 7: Carrington Stakes 1400m
GAULOIS (6) has a consistent record when racing second-up and is a winner here at the track, he resumed in Brisbane and ran on well enough along the rails and first-up is not normally his thing. He was the Rowley Mile winner last prep and loves the sting out of the ground, more rain won’t hurt his chances.
SOUTHERN LAD (11) was a winner here a fortnight ago, he was beautifully ridden with a sit behind the leaders before edging clear and running on hard. The margin was only a length but it was big gap to third. REDOUBLE (5) ran on hard in the restricted Magic Millions Cup last time, he has been up a long time but has shown improvement at the last couple.
CRACK ME UP (1) comes through that same race, he didn’t have much room when running on late and probably should have finished closer. He has won 2/3 at the track and races well here.
Race 8: BM78 Handicap 1100m
PANDEMIC (10) resumes and was tackling the best of his age group last time, I like the way he trialed recently and is a winner at his only other fresh run on debut. The speed looks to be good and he should be charging over the top late, presuming the track is playing fair.
SIR ELTON (8) looks the obvious danger, he has won two trials leading into this fresh run, you know what you will get with him, he will jump and run and try to lead all the way. See how the track is playing early, if it is favouring them I expect he will start favourite. SPIRITUAL PURSUIT (9) has only been fair at two runs since resuming but did have excuses last time when the saddle shifted early on. SAFADO (4) is an interesting runner resuming, he hasn’t raced since the Provincial Champs final back in April last year. He is a perfect 2/2 when fresh but would need to see some money for him.
Race 9: BM78 Handicap 1400m
SUPERIUM (5) won here when resuming, he then had no luck last time when narrowly beaten. Again it was here at Randwick and he was a well backed favourite, got a cheap rails run before being held-up then angling across heels to close late in the best last 600m of the race. Draws poorly but has Nash to work that out.
LAURE ME IN (2) was a real eye-catcher when resuming a month ago for the new stable, he got a mile back and had to change paths in the straight and attacked the line well, albeit never looking the winner. ABOVE AND BEYOND (9) gets some good weight relief, he will roll forward and the spot outside the leader looks his again. Je stuck on well two starts back from that spot and was narrowly beaten in an easier race. COME ALONG (13) gets in with no weight and the claim, he ran on well at Warwick Farm against the pattern into third and wasn’t beaten far. I expect him to settle closer form the good draw, look for him late.
