Moonee Valley Racing Tips – Fri Mar 20th
We will be at Moonee Valley this Friday.
Track: Good 4. Rail: True
Best Bet: Race 3 – LARIMER STREET
Race 1: BM70 Handicap 1200m
Tough start to the night as my three main chances are all dual acceptors! SAM’S IMAGE (1) resumed here in a similar race a month ago with a claiming jock, he got a mile back and ran on hard in a race where it was more suited to be up on the speed. From the inside draw I expect him to be a lot closer I the run stepping up to the 6 furlongs.
RAKTOFF (4) is drawn wide but has good tactical speed, she will be looking for the top but happy to lay her in the run if she is not first across to the rails. VIRAL (2) has the wide gate to deal with but will get back anyway, he was ok here last time in a harder race. CASHED UP (6) was 5-weeks between runs last start, he got back in an easier and after getting held-up, made some ground late back along the inferior part of the track closer to the rail.
Race 2: Super VOBIS 3YO Plate Set Weights and Penalties 1200m
WINGS OF PASTRAMI (10) won all four runs last campaign, from a maiden win across the border at Penola to a BM70 win at Flemington before going to the paddock. Love the booking of Willow, she beat some handy ones when last in work and is a recent trial winner.
OVERKILL (6) placed on debut then bolted in at short odds to win his maiden at Kyneton. He resumed here three weeks ago and was good after witting outside the lead, he flattened out late but did enough.
CONDO’S EXPRESS (1) goes well here at the Valley with two wins and a placing at three starts at the track, he has versatility but I think with the jockey change he will be positive. He is better than he has shown at his last two runs. OCULAR (9) won on debut, he then went to Caulfield and was good behind the smart How Womantic. This looks no harder.
Race 3: St Albans Stakes Set Weights 1200m
LARIMER STREET (1) has been to the races three times, all in this first campaign. He was good in the Sires Produce at Flemington last start after sitting up on the speed. It is difficult to sit parked around that long bend. He has shown he can handle all the conditions, drawn well he gets the blinkers on and should be able to lead?
MONTIA (9) was well supported on debut here at the Valley, she had a nice sit on the leaders before easing three-wide and taking over early in the straight to score. Harder here but she looks to be above average. UNAMINOUS (4) is another last start winner on debut, he sat mid-field and showed a good turn-of-foot to win easily. A horse well beaten in that race has since come out and bolted in to win a maiden. PIONEER RIVER (3) ran on well on debut in a tough field up the straight, he then won an easier race at Flemington last time but this is harder. How far back does he get from the draw?
Race 4: BM70 Handicap 2040m
TOO CLOSE THE SUN (1) is an interesting runner that was racing in the West before coming across to Lindsey Smith’s Warrnambool stable. HIs first start in Vic was at Flemington in a harder BM78 Handicap, he sat up on the speed and after hitting the front, was run down late after doing plenty of work. He does get a good claim, he will be up on the speed for a long way.
GHODELEINE (8) won by as far as you can kick your hat against the girls last time, she should be close to the speed and may have the cold sit on the top pick? RELUCENT (10) won at Pakenham when resuming, he was good last time at Flemington over a mile and clearly was looking for further. CAPE RICHARDS (5) won here at the Valley two back before placing at Ballarat last time when running on hard from a mile back. Look for him late.
Race 5: Handicap 955m
It’s been a long time between wins for MISS NORWAY (7) but I like the way she maps here. She has the speed to get across but outside the leader looks her spot. She was runner-up when resuming here over the shorts, she then led up the straight last time and was run down but stuck on well. She looks better coming back around the bend.
EPIC GRAY (1) was a winner her eat the track last time, he had a perfect run in transit and ran over the top to get up in the last stride. He maps to get a similar run. BELLA VELLA (6) is resuming, the last time she was here she won a short course event from off the speed. This stable has to be respected when coming to Vic. THE CENTAURIAN (3) is resuming and has a good record fresh, he won here last start before going to the break but was big odds.
Race 6: Alexandra Stakes 3YO Fillies Set Weights and Penalties 1600m
PARADEE (7) has won two of three since resuming, she settled closer last time but I can see her settling further back here. The speed should be genuine, probably the best run this campaign was the one she placed at Sandown when getting a mile back. Look for her late!
BETCHA FLYING (4) is still yet to win out of maiden grade and her run resuming only looks fair on paper, but it was a lot better than that. She got a mile back and got wide on a day when it was poison to be back in the field. MEUSE (2) has won three of five, he sat outside the speed when resuming for a good win and then placed at the Vanity last time. A month between runs but gets the blinkers for the first time. LA TENE (1) won at Caulfield when resuming at big odds, she then was only fair second-up. She placed at her only run at the track and does have good speed, I think she will be a lot closer tonight.
Race 7: William Reid Stakes WFA 1200m
LOVING GABY (11) rarely runs a bad race. She is undefeated here at the Valley and her two runs back have been super. She was clearly the best of the outside brigade resuming up the straight then chased hard but was no match for Bivouac last time. The key is she may be off and gone when he is looking for runs?
BIVOUAC (9) had excuses last time he was here at the Valley, the same problem he faces here, the inside gate! Go on his dominant win up the straight last start, he showed his brilliance and have no doubt he is the best horse in the race. That’s the beauty of the sport! EXCEEDANCE (10) was disappointing up the straight last time but we can’t forget his runs in the Spring. SCALES OF JUSTICE (1) won the Australia Stakes here resuming but was a little flat second-up. The forgotten horse maybe? Cracking race!
Race 8: Sunline Stakes Fillies and Mares WFA 1600m
SPANISH REEF (2) has been a little costly to punters at her last couple, she has certainly had her chances. She probably wasn’t suited the way the track was playing two back at Caulfield but I feel there was better runs last start, a few of those lining up against her again here. She gets her last chance.
PRINCESS JENNI (4) ticks plenty of boxes, she is undefeated here at the track and is undefeated second-up. She was big odds resuming but looks better suited out in trip. FIDELIA (6) always needs everything to go right, she will get back in the run and hit the line hard but is always one of those “back it next time” type runs. It’s been a long time between wins for her. IRITHEA (3) looks to get the front but will need a few easy sectionals through the middle of the race.
