Moonee Valley Racing Tips – Fri Feb 21st
We will be at Moonee Valley this Friday.
Track: Good 4. Rail: Out 5m entire circuit.
Best Bet: Race 4 – LEALE
Race 1: BM84 Handicap 3000m
YULONG RISING (2) won an easier race than this last start over the 2500m. He sat just off teh speed, peeled three-wide down the side and was much too strong through the line, suggesting that stepping up to the 3000m looks ideal.
SERENADE THE STARS (4) was big odds also winning an easier race here over the 2500m, he sat up on the speed and looks to have the tactical advantage over the top pick. ABLAZE (3) will just run all day, he is first-up but his two prior runs were wins over 3340m at Gawler and the Jericho Cup at the Bool over 4600m! Yes 4600m. He will keep coming. COUNT ZERO (6) was runner-up in a much easier 3000m last time, he was still coming in the straight but had every chance to run the winner down.
Race 2: Maiden Plate Set Weights 1200m
Tough race as there will be a lot of interest in the first-starter SHEVROLET (7). If there is any money for the Mick Kent gelding, he probably wins. PALACIO MUSICO (6) looks the best of the raced brigade. He resumed at Geelong and sat up on the speed, peeled three-wide and loomed up but just found one better. There was a good gap to third. SAYUMI (10) placed here at the track on debut and its always a plus to have seen the track, his trial was fair. WIN FALL (11) has placed at all three runs, heavily backed at Bendigo last time but did have every chance. No confidence at all in the race.
Race 3: 3YO BM70 Handicap 1000m
METEORITE (3) is a winner here at the track at maiden level before going to the paddock. He has shown good speed, led in two of the three career starts and looks well drawn in the middle of the line. Happy to bet again in the run if he does land on the bunny.
NEBARAZ (4) was very short on debut, sat outside the leader and did well to stick on and win. Harder here obviously but is drawn well and should have all the options early.
SEA DRAGON (6) hasn’t missed a place at four career starts, he was beaten at a very short price, deep in the red, when resuming. Obviously has the ability. PEAK (2) is resuming and has been very consistent through his five-start career. Hard to line-up the form from last campaign in NSW, he will probably be giving them a start.
Race 4: Fillies and Mares BM70 Handicap 1600m
LEALE (11) won two in a row early in this campaign, including a 13-length maiden win. Yes 13! She then led all the way at Werribee and won easily in her first go out of that grade. Last time she was having her first look at the Valley, was on the speed but held-up at a vital stage when the runs come. Hoping she can lead with the lightweight.
PRISM (3) has been up for a while, she was only fair on the speed last time but looks suited getting back against the girls. THINK I’M DREAMING (6) has been runner-up at the last two, the blinkers come off just worried where she gets to in the run. Should be giving them top pick a big start. PART TIME LOVER (8) was favourite winning a BM64 last start, it was a solid win after being forced to chase hard in the run.
Race 5: BM70 Handicap 955m
Tough start to the Quaddie, throw in a stack of numbers! That’s usually the case in these 955m races as you need to do everything right to win. LADY SOLLY (7) was huge in defeat up in grade against the girls here last time. She was mid-field in the run , came wide and closed hard to only be beaten under half a length.
Most of them.
NON PEAR (4) was a real eye-catcher last time un the same race as the top pick after being slowly away in one of these last time. She usually races on the speed, will be interesting to see what she does from the wide gate if she jumps well. BIG REEL (2) only has a fair record here at the track, second-up stats are ok and has plenty of speed. Inside barrier a slight concern with all the speed drawn wider. PRINCESS FLAGRANT (10) is a last start winner here at 64 grade, over this jump-and-run trip, she has a stack of speed, if she steps she can certainly cross.
Race 6: BM64 Handicap 1600m
BILL THE BEE (2) races well here, she won here at 64 grade three starts back, was fair at Flemington two starts ago back along the inside when it was more beneficial to be running on out wide. Last time here he had every chance after getting the perfect run, maps well again and gets the good claim.
Happy to get the percentage up in the Quaddie here and only include one or two others. SAINT PETER (8) comes back in trip after winning at the Bool last start, he will be the one finishing hard if they go hard early. VUNGERS (1) races well here at the track, he gets a good claim and maps well. He should be mid-field in the run and has finished well to place at the last couple since resuming. WAVE REVIEWS (10) next best, but for a place only.
Race 7: Typhoon Tracy Stakes 3YO Fillies Set Weights and Penalties 1200m
SISSTAR (2) won three in a row last prep including a maiden win by almost 7 lengths! She resumed at Listed level at Caulfield was up on the speed and over-racing before fading late. She has the wide draw but should work across and will be hard to run down if she can find the front.
SASSY SALITAGE (4) won here at the Valley two starts back at her first go out of maiden grade, wasn’t disgraced last start here after hitting a flat spot and picking up well once balanced. MS CATHERINE (8) is undefeated after two starts including an all the way win here by almost 5 lengths! This is harder but she looks to have plenty of upside. SONG BROCADE (9) will be huge odds but was given a good push by the stable during the week, she was a winner first-up last campaign.
Race 8: BM70 Handicap 1200m
VEGAS KNIGHT (11) is resuming, has placed at his only run at the track. He ran a nice race in the Caulfield Guineas before going for a break, he may find the 6 furlongs too short but I am banking on a genuine tempo and he can swoop over the top late.
LEITER (10) was good in defeat her eat the track last time, he was three-deep without cover and chased hard in the straight, laying in. He maps to get the cold sit on the leaders. IT’S NOT THERE (6) led for a long way before getting run down late last start here at the track, this looks no harder and three was plenty of money for him late.
If FIGHT (14) gets a run as the second emergency he comes right into calculations with Olly down to ride.
