RICH HIPS (1) won this race last year and won the G3 HKJ Club Stakes 1400m 2 runs back. This is a target race as stated by trainer Trent Busuttin on RSN Radio this week and she is 3 from 5 first up. She draws to sit handy and her class should prevail here.

FLYING MASCOT (2) ran a nose 2nd to PROBABEEL first up after getting all the favors in the run. Her trainer Tom Dabernig stated on Sydney radio this week that she may be a bit flat after that run and that he thinks the following start over 1600m she will be at her peak. That said, she will likely lead here at her leisure and get every chance.

Betting Approach:

(1) RICH HIPS: 0.5 units win @ $6.00
Quinella (1) RICH HIPS & (2) FLYING MASCOT 0.5 units

CALLSIGN MAV (5) was nosed out for 2nd first run this prep behind EARLSWOOD in the G3 Carlyon Cup 1600m. He won the G1 Windsor Park 1600m in NZ last prep before finishing down the track in the Cox Plate. He’s unproven past 1600, but with a soft lead here and the benefit of a run over 1600 under his belt he will get every opportunity to notch another win.

CASCADIAN (1) is a consistent fellow finishing top 5 more often than not. His last start 3rd in the G1 CF Orr 1400 was good albeit it he never left the fence. 2nd run now and up to 1800m a distance he hasn’t won at looks a stiff ask. On top of that he likes soft tracks and this will likely end a up a firm track. DELPHI (7), EMISSARY (8) & STEEL PRINCE (2) are all first up and will be benefited by the hit out but anyone of the 3 may have the staying power to over run them late.

Betting Approach:

(5) CALLSIGN MAV: 0.5 units win @ $3.60

I’M THUNDERSTRUCK (1) was an ok 3.25 L 5th first up behind TOFANE in the CF Orr 1400m when in clear need of the run. With the smaller field and what looks a more genuine tempo he can settle a little closer and have last crack at them. The stable reported that his main target is The All Star Mile but he has worked well and made significant improvement since his last run and is a big chance here.

TOFANE (4) ultra consistent mare who bolted in last start winning the CF Orr 1400m. Gets a soft barrier to box seat here and ticks a lot of boxes again. She is flying and clearly the one to beat. MO’UNGA (3) is the smokey here having won the G1 Winx 1400 first up last prep. His 2 trials have been good but I suspect this fellow is a big track horse (Flem or Rand) and will benefit from the run.

Betting Approach:

(1) I’M THUNDERSTRUCK: 0.5 units win @ $3.80

JAQUINOT (6) missed the kick last start and got home well for a 2L 5th without really being put under pressure. He won on Boxing Day at this track and trip coming from a long way back and letting down with a serious turn of foot. If he jumps with them he looks the one to beat.

SEBONACK (4) won a 1000m race here at his first start, after box seating, but he did it with something in hand. He’s drawn to stalk the speed and Jye McNeil sticks. REVOLUTIONARY MISS (11) won the Fillies prelude 1100m track and trip. This combo (J Kah & the Snowden’s) know how to win big races. Slightly awkward draw but with clear air she’ll get her chance. (12) MISS ROSEIANO was a gallant 2nd behind REVOLUTIONARY MISS last start after sitting on a hot speed. With a more economical run she’s a chance here.

Betting Approach:

(6) JAQUINOT: 0.5 units win @ $5.00
(4) SEBONACK: 0.5 units win @$8.00

Race 8: OAKLEIGH PLATE 1100m

WILD RULER (1) has trialed well into this, beating NATURE STRIP in the process. He’s a first up specialist having won 3 and placed 2nd twice from 5 first up runs. He won the G1 Moir 1000 at The Valley last prep and won the Listed Fireball 1100 in Sydney running a very slick time, carrying 59kgs. The training camp know how to win this race and the good 3 surface is his preferred ground.

MINHAAJ (9) has had 2 nice trials into this after winning both her starts over this distance last prep. She has a win track and trip and she is 3 from 4 first up. This is a big rise in grade and from barrier 1 she will need a lot of luck gaining clear air, but if she can, she’s a big chance with the light weight. MARABI (5) is unbeaten so we don’t know where the bottom of her is yet. She is drawn well but faces her biggest test to date. She’s a chance but her current price of $2.70 looks a bit short.

Betting Approach:

(1) WILD RULER: 0.5 units win @ $8.50
(9) MINHAAJ: 0.5 units win @ $8.50

DESERT ICON (5) bolted in for us last start in the BM100 1800m and back out to his preferred 2000m this Waller, UK import is drawn perfectly to repeat the dose here. He looks the best of the day with bad luck his main danger.

PANCHO (4) stable mate of the favorite that is working into fitness and 4th up now should be ready to run a race. That said his stable mate his measure comfortably last start.  WYCLIF (8) won well last start in a listed race at Morphettville over 2037m. This is a step up in class but his form since arrive from the UK has been consistent and he is trained by a proven trainer of middle distance horses.

Betting Approach:

(5) DESERT ICON: 1 unit win @ $2.25
