PREVIEWS

Race 6: BM84 HANDICAP 1000M

YOUNG LIAM (6) finished 3rd last start in BM78 over 1100 behind CLEMENCEAU who looks a horse going places. He carried 60.5kgs there and drops to 57.5kgs here. He has 3 wins from 6 starts this prep and is drawn favorably to lead again. Back to the 1000 is ideal and Jordan Childs rides again. The only slight negative is a wet track if the predicted rain comes.

Dangers:

FINE DANE (5) is a consistent horse who is usually among the place getters. His win strike rate isn’t overly exciting at 12% but he gets to a track he has won at twice from 3 starts and gets a soft draw in barrier 1. From there he can stalk the speed and with the jockey aboard who has won the most times on him and being the trainer’s son, he should get every chance to notch another win. ZORRO’S DREAM (3) looks the best of the rest after finishing 2nd two starts back behind EXPRESS PASS at Flemington over 1000. He appears to do his best at 1100m so if they over-do it up front he’ll be steaming home.

Betting Approach:

(6) YOUNG LIAM: 0.4 Units each way @ $9.50 win & $3.20 plc

Race 8: ANNIVERSARY VASE 1400M

BUFFALO RIVER (1) is first up here at his pet distance after 2 strong trial wins. He looks the only leader here so if he can jump and settle for his jockey he will be hard to get past. The 60kgs is a slight concern but he has won 2 races in lower class over this distance carrying that weight. The likely soft track will only enhance his chances and the Moroney training camp are training winners at will lately.

Dangers:

REGARDSMAREE (5) is coming off a very good last stride win over LOMBARDO and THEASTROLOGIST over 1200 at Caulfield last week. He is another who is at his pet distance and should be hard fit now. The wide barrier and likely soft conditions are his negatives along with not being proven at the track. That said he’s a live chance again. EXCELIDA (9) ran a very nice 3rd in the G3 Victoria Handicap behind AYRTON and STREETS OF AVALON last start. She is drawn to get a nice run just off the speed and the soft conditions will suit. The Hayes camp are also in good form at present and this mare is poised to strike here.

Betting Approach:

(1) BUFFALO RIVER: 0.6 Units win @ $4.60
(9) EXCELIDA: 0.4 Units win @ $6.00
