Race 7: VOBIS GOLD SPRINT 1200M
THE ASTROLOGIST (1) finished 2ND in the G1 Newmarket 1200 2 back and 2.3L 6th in the G1 William Reid 1200 last start. He’s drawn out but should be able to cross and sit outside the leader and dictate terms from there. He’s suited at the compressed weight scale as he is adept at carrying big weights and with his preferred soft ground he’ll be hard to beat.
SWATS THAT (12) has become a bit of a non winner and is now 79 weeks without a win. That said she is at least consistent having raced in the top grade. Stepping back a few cogs here and getting 5kgs off her stable mate THE ASTROLOGIST should be of benefit. However she is drawn inside and is likely to get back in a slowly run race and will need some Ollie magic to get him home. She has dual accepted to run in Adelaide and so might may run there. SIRIUS SUSPECT (3) finished 3rd in the new country race on Good Friday and is drawn to box seat here. He has won 8 races at this distance but only once at this track. He’s up in weight now and he usually does his best work on good ground at Flemington.
(1) THE ATROLOGIOST: $4.60
Race 9: BEL ESPRIT STAKES 1100M
IT’SOURTIME (11) is first up here after finishing last prep with a nose 2nd to HALVORSEN in the G3 Standish 1200. This fellow is 2 from 2 first up and 2 from 3 at this distance. He has a win on soft ground and 3 placings from 3 goes at this track. He’s drawn wide but should be able to push forward and sit on speed in a race that looks devoid of pace. He’s very consistent with 3 wins and 5 placings from 9 starts and looks good each way bet.
EXTREME WARRIOR (9) is a colt with the most to gain from a win here. His win 2 back in the G3 Sapphire 1200 for 3 year olds was impressive but then he went to the G1 Coolmore 1200 and was well beaten into 10th. He’s in the right camp but the $2.10 looks a bit skinny first go against open age. GENERAL BEAU (2) ran a very nice 3rd in the G1 William Reid 1200 last start behind SEPTEMBER RUN. The negatives are he’s not weighted that well and will settle back in a slowly run race. That said he is fit and will be finishing hard.
(11) IT’SOURTIME: each way @ $7.50 win & $2.40 plc
