Race 7: EASTER CUP 2000M
SECRET BLAZE (9) finished 2ND behind PONDUS last start in an Open Handicap at Flemington over 2000. He arrives here 4th up, ready to peak and gets a jockey upgrade of Craig Williams, the Jock who last won on him in the G3 JRA Plate 2040 at the Valley last prep. Drawn ideally to stalk the speed, gets a 0.5kg weight drop of PONDUS and importantly has a win and a 2nd placing at this tricky circuit. The $14 looks a nice each way play.
GRANDSLAM (12) finished 3rd behind PONDUS and SECRET BLAZE last start in a 2000m handicap at Flemington. Third up now he looks to be approaching peak fitness and he gets a small weight swing off both those horses. The slight negative is his wide draw which may see him trapped wide. That said if J Kah pushes forward on him and can slot in with cover he’ll be a chance. He won the G3 Alister Clark over 2040 as a 3 year old and his trainers are on fire at present. PONDUS (2) bolted in 2 starts back at Flemington over 2000 and was narrowly defeated last start over 2400 by CRYSTAL PEGASUS in the Listed Mornington Cup. Back to the 2000 here is a slight concern but the main concern is that he might get stuck on the rail inside horses on a tight turning track which he might not cope with. Couple that with his top weight of 59 I think he has a big task ahead of him.

(12) GRANDSLAM: 0.2 units each way @ $16.00 win & $4.80 plc
Race 8: VICTORIA HANDICAP 1400M
STREETS OF AVALON (1) this old stalwart will be hard to beat here at his favorite track on his favorite fast ground over his favorite distance 1400. He is coming off a 3rd place in the All Star Mile behind ZAAKI (2nd in the G1 Queen Elizabeth last week) and I’M THUNDERSTRUCK (2nd in the G1 Doncaster 1600 at his next run). That is impeccable form for this race. He is drawn barrier 1 so should do minimal work in finding the lead and get every possible chance from there. Oh I forgot to mention he won this race 3 years ago as well…he looks an each way bet all day at the $15 on offer.
I AM SUPERMAN (2) finished 3rd last start over 1600 behind CHERRY TORTONI at Bendigo. Back to a more suitable distance, on a likely firm track from an inside draw this fellow will have every chance to return to the winners stall. Ran 2nd to SINAWANN and beat STREETS OF AVALON into 3rd last prep at this course and distance in the G3 Kevin Heffernan. The stable are on fire winning all over the country at present, so the $11 on offer is also a tempting each way bet. AYRTON (9) is resuming here after nearly losing his life to a suspected spider bite. His trainers have stated on radio that he will probably take a run to get back to his racing fitness and is being aimed at the G1 Doomben cup 2000 and will run next in the G2 Holindale 1800 at the Gold coast. The $2.60 on offer is too short to be backing him here when his fitness level are low. BERMADEZ (16) is a progressive horse for Mike Moroney, who was talking Doncaster’s with him early this prep, suggesting he has a high opinion of this bloke. Drawn soft and with a light weight he will get his chance to go to the next level here.
