Track: Good 4. Rail: True.

Best Bet: Race 9 – BOBBING

Race 1: 2YO Maiden Handicap 1000m

Impossible to bet with any confidence here with so many unknowns. SPACEBOY (2) showed ability placing at his first two runs, he was sent to the paddock and has trialed very well for this. BADIA (10) is dropping back to the 1000m after running on well in the Percy Sykes last time, she didn’t get much room late and may have finished closer. DUENNA (12) is a Godolphin 2Yo on debut for James Cummings, there has been no trainer have a more dominant 2YO season ever. MINTED (7) will be forward as is usually the case for Waterhouse/Bott runners. Not a lot of confidence and there are better betting opportunities on the card.

Race 2: 3&4YO BM78 Handicap 1000m

HEART CONQUERED (1) won three in a row before going to the paddock, he was going through the grades nicely with his front-running style. He has won 2/3 when resuming and has the draw to lead again and wasn’t used much in a recent trial win.

Dangers:

REVENIRE (4) has been gelded since we last saw him in work, he was a little enigmatic in this last prep and needs everything to go right. He will be giving the top pick a start. CATESBY (2) has trialed well for the new yard and goes well fresh, watch the betting with him. BROOK MAGIC (5) gets the blinkers off for the first time, also flies fresh. With so many of them first-up, watch the betting late indicating fitness levels from the yard.

Race 3: Highway Class 3 Handicap 1400m

We will stick with AL MAH HAHA (1) after we tipped him a fortnight ago. He stuck on well after being wide without cover throughout. He gets posted with the 62kg’s again but gets the benefit of a 2kg claim today. If he can get cover a pair back, he should be exploding at the top of the straight.

Dangers:

WE CONCUR (2) has not missed a place in six career starts, he comes south for the Dunn yard after racing well in Queensland at his last couple. The stable must be respected every time they bring one to these Highway races. VELARO (7) is fresh, a winner previously first-up and looks ready to go after a couple of trials. DREAM OF BISCAY (9) next best, also resuming and has placed at two previous fresh runs.

Race 4: 3&4YO BM78 Handicap 1800m

This could be the most open race on the card. Not a lot of confidence. SONDELON (1) goes on top and I don’t mind the wide draw, a little concerning how he didn’t finish it off last start but he did appear in the steward’s report. He will go forward and his chances will increase if he can find the top early.

Dangers:

FUN FACT (7) gets the winkers on for the first time, he drops a stack in class from his last couple of runs where he has been only fair. He has been ridden a lot closer at his last couple and looks drawn well. RE EDIT (11) resumed with a dominant on speed win at Hawkesbury, always wary of the form from there though. NOBU (9) has placed at both of his starts on the Kenso track, the latest of those was a fortnight ago when he got wide on the track and ran on hard to narrowly go down. Look for him late.

Race 5: BM78 Handicap 1100m

ANNA’S JOY (8) is a last start winner here on the Kenso track, she kicked up to hold the lead before handing up, got the run in the straight and was strong through the line. She rarely runs a bad race and you know she will be making her own luck in front or someone up on the speed.

Dangers:

MISS EXFACTOR (4) is resuming, an ex-Queenslander, she was tackling the best of her age group north of the border, comes to the Joe Pride yard and has had plenty of trials. Watch the betting as always with this yard. ORIENTAL RUNNER (6) is another that will be up on the speed for a long way in what looks an open race. KAPAJACK (9) is a 3YO taking on the older horses here, won on debut before a couple of good efforts from the back. He has trialed nicely, happy to take him on at this stage and seeing how he has come back.

Race 6: Fillies and Mares BM78 Handicap 1300m

IT will look an open race with the betting sure to be each-way the field, but I like one down in the weights. ECHO GEM (12) was runner-up in an easier race at Kembla resuming, she did all the work outside the leader before running to the front. She was run down late but will strip fitter for it, was a winner second-up at maiden level at her first prep and will push forward from the wide gate early.

Dangers:

JEN RULES (8) wasn’t beaten far in Group Three company last start and didn’t have a lot of luck, look for her late if the big field goes hard early. PALMATEER (11) did his racing south of the border at the back end of his last campaign, she maps to mid-file don the inner and should hit the line hard. She trialed well recently and may just need some luck off the inside draw. STROME (3) was impressive when resuming at Gosford, she was well back to the turn before coming very wide and finishing all over the top of them. That’s not easy to do at Gosford.

Race 7: BM88 Handicap 1250m

CHARGE (5) was last seen in the Oakleigh Plate. He was found out and outclassed that day after a good run but looks much better suited back in this class. He has trialed well and should be sent forward early from the wide draw.

Dangers:

PASSAGE OF TIME (3) resumed a fortnight ago in a similar race, he was in behind the leaders straightening, held-up before switching around heels to charge late and just miss. He was most unlucky but will have to improve on his poor second-up record. PIRACY (6) comes through a good form race at the provincials last time, he will be up on the speed for a long way. PROBLEM SOLVER (7) comes through the same race as Passage Of Time, she was very wide throughout and stuck on ok, working much harder than those up on the speed closer to the rail.

Race 8: BM88 Handicap 1400m

STAR OF THE SEAS (1) has never missed a place in 9 trips to the races, he was never on the track here on the bigger track last time but didn’t shirk the task. He draws to get a softer run on the inside here and will only need a little luck when the runs come to finish over the top.

Dangers:

RENEWAL (11) resumed with a win here at Randwick then travelled south for his last few and wasn’t far away. He has the wide draw but will get back anyway. SPRING CHARLIE (12) was runne –up in the Provincial Champs here last time, he had a tough run and had to be steadied at a vital time before chasing hard late. MONGOLIAN WOLF (9) is an interesting runner, Ex-Weir now with Kris Lees, he may want further but has won fresh in the past.

Race 9: BM78 Handicap 1550m

BOBBING (2) has only finished back further than 2nd once in his 10-start career, he was a dominant winner of the Provincial Champs here on the outer track three weeks ago when storming home from well back. That is his pattern, which makes his consistency even more remarkable. Look for him late.

Dangers:

MUSHAIREB (4) was good winning fresh off a long spell, he was held-up at a vital stage before accelerating through a gap with a furlong to go. He is a winner at his only other second-up run. AGASSI (10) has been up for a long while at what is still his first prep, he bolted in last time when up on the speed but this is harder. Happy to risk him. CALCULATED (8) next best dropping back in grade.
