Hawkesbury (Thur)

Hawkesbury Racing Tips -Thur Nov 7

We will be at Hawkesbury this Thursday.

Track: Soft 6. Rail: True.

Best Bet: Race 8 – LAGARDE

Race 1: Maiden Plate Set Weights 1500m

WAR CABINET (4) looked to have every chance here at the track when resuming in what was probably a harder maiden than this. He gets the addition of the blinkers for the first time and drawn out, I expect that he will be ridden positively early and go forward.

Watch for any money for the Mak Newnham first starter MISSION PHOENIX (6), he has been given a stack of trials leading into this dating back to January. OXIDIZATION (8) has placed at her last couple, she made good ground here at the track last start and gets in well with the claim. BALLADEER (5) showed good speed last start at Kembla but didn’t give much at the back-end, steps up to the mile and may give a sight.

Race 2: 64 Handicap 1500m

With the early scratching, it leaves us with just a field of 6. ROSE OF SAVANNAH (7) took 10 starts to break her maiden status but she may have turned the corner. She was coming off two wet track runs since resuming and appreciated getting back on top of the ground at Scone. She draws well, maps to be fourth in the run and gets a winnable race.

TEST OF WAR (2) led all the way here last time against the boys, he has raced well at the track which is always a plus. A little worried about the jockey change going from Tommy Berry to the 3kg claiming Tom Sherry. BRIX (1) is very consistent, he will find this easier but does have to lump the 61kg. EVERARD (4) must be included in what is an even race, she found the line well at Newcastle resuming and has a very good second-up record.

Race 3: Stayer Class 4 Handicap 2100m

PLAISIR (1) will be giving them a start but there has been a lot to like about the way he has finished off his last couple. He was last on the rails at Newcastle last time before getting wide and finishing too well. This looks no harder.

FASTNET CYCLONE (4) is having his first go at the track which is a little concerning, he was ridden more conservatively last start and ran on well at Randwick in a harder race than this. It should be noted that he comes to the races for a new trainer today. WESTON (6) won the Cessnock Cup last start, he has been up for a very long time but is still racing consistently. CALIFORNIAFIREBIRD (3) placed here for the first time last start, at his fifth look at the track, the blinkers go off and he will be up on the speed. Hard to have him with his overall record though.

Race 4: Provincial and Country Maiden Handicap 1100m

Not real keen on any of those we have seen before, so will stick with the Kim Waugh trained debutant SARAH ELIZABETH (7). She has trialed well enough recently at Gosford and Wyong winning the latter, happy to take her on trust.

DIMITRI (5) debuted back in February and pulled up lame, he was sent to the paddock and resumed at Kembla three weeks ago. He ran on well from the back without having much luck with the best last furlong of the race. FORTNITE (2) has been up on the sped at both starts and placed, a little worried that he may have to sit parked in the breeze from the wide draw, doubt he can win if he doesn’t get cover. OUR FOX (3) is on debut and has trialed ok, look for any money for him.

Race 5: 4YO and Up Maiden Plate 1100m

JAYTEES (2) has placed at his last five and is sure to breakthrough for that maiden win soon, he has led and been run down at his last two around Gosford and most recently at Newcastle. He gets out in trip from the 900m to the 1100m, should be firing across early.

Connections of CANYONERO (1) must be getting annoyed that the son of Pierro is yet to win a race. He has lined up 15 times and placed at 11 of them, he has versatility but always seems to run into one better. Again, Tom Sherry rides. Make of that what you will. INVINCIBLE KISS (6) has shown improvement at her last couple, if she jumps away clean, she should be able to kick through and lead from the good gate. STAR BARISTA (9) hasn’t shown much but has transferred to a new stable and can improve, but needs to.

Race 6: Class 1 Handicap 1600m

HIGHJACKER (1) has to take the step out of maiden grade to a Class 1, but the way he won last start here at the track suggest he can do just that. He led all the way and fought on strongly suggesting he shouldn’t have a problem with the mile. Winning at the track here previously is a big plus.

SHAIBANAT (2) is also a last start maiden winner, he ran on well from mid-field at Wyong, took the lead early in the straight and hung on late. He steps right up in trip and looks a little query to run it out. SKY DIAMONDS (7) is also a last start winner here at the track, she led throughout for a dominant win but a little concerned that she is drawn in and will get crossed early. WINTER IN AMERICA (4) hasn’t been far away at three starts this prep without placing, up the mile I expect that she will roll forward.

Race 7: Ladies Day Cup Handicap 1600m

BLACK ON GOLD (7) goes on top for Waller in what looks a very open race. There was a lot to like about the way he hit the line resuming over 1400m from a mile back in a race that was dominated by those on the speed. He was well beaten in the Cup here back in April but did make some late ground, he loks to have come back well.

Tough race. A tough ask for TAKOMICHI (6) to come straight into this fresh, he gets the blinkers on again and has had three trials leading into it. HE will go forward and try and be on the speed as is the norm for Gai/Bott runners. DELECTATION GIRL (4) is well into her prep and showed plenty of improvement last time, she ran to the lead late before being nabbed on the line at Group Three level. Need to see that consistently though. Watch the betting with ADMIRE WINNER (8) having his first Australian start for Chris Waller, he hasn’t raced in almost two years but his trials were ok and we know how good the standard is in Japan.

Race 8: BM64 Handicap 1100m

Very confident that LAGARDE (4) can take us out on Ladies Day as a winner. She is very consistent, resumes today off only a couple of fair trials but has the advantage of being here at her home track. She has not missed a place at 4 previous fresh runs, has good tactical speed and will try to lead all of the way.

DESTORNER (5) has trialed only fairly for her return, she was a winner on debut though at her only other fresh run and will be giving them a start. SKYRAY (2) ran on well from a mile back at Warwick Farm resuming, he comes back in trip and doesn’t have a great record second-up. He can run a place but need the price to get right out to entertain the thought of backing him to win. SUPER LONGLEA (7) won on debut at Newcastle then was sent to the paddock, resuming off a trial win at Warwick Farm for the in-form Mark Newnham stable, I expect that she will be well supported on race-day.
