Gold Coast Racing Tips -Sat Jan 11

We will be at Gold Coast this Saturday.

Track: Good 4. Rail: Out 1m from 1000-400. True the remainder.

Best Bet: Race 6 – ALLIGATOR BLOOD

===

Race 1: MM Maiden Plate Set Weights 1200m

HE’LL HAUNT US (7) has been gelded since we last saw him, he has been off the scene for 40 weeks but has trialed well recently up here. His last run in Vic was super, brave in defeat after sitting wide on the speed without cover.

Dangers:

Tough race with so many of the chances first-up. SPACEBOY (4) has placed at all but one of his 7 career starts, also resuming, he has won two trials in NSW and no doubt this was the aim fresh. AEECEE BEAU (2) is also resuming, he gets a couple of gear changes after placing at his first two runs. No doubt he will be up on the speed. SIR ROCKET (5) was ok on debut then sent to the paddock. A recent trial winner here at the track, if he jumps well off the inside he will try and lead.

Race 2: Open Handicap Quality 1800m

ETANA (5) was only fair in the run home last time having her first look at the track, I am willing to forgive that run. The start prior at Flemington she was brave in defeat after making a long run, this looks easier.

Dangers:

RECKLESS CHOICE (6) has been up for a while but is racing well, he again ran on hard from the back at Eagle Farm last start at Listed level. Look for him late. SAMBRO (1) faded late last start after doing work to get outside the leader and loses nothing with JMac taking the ride today. GRESHAM (7) has the ability but doesn’t win out of turn, this is the kind of race he can bob up in though.

Race 3: MM Trophy Quality handicap 2400m

THE CANDY MAN (1) does have to carry the 61kg here but it is hard to fault his form. He has won three of his last four, an easing favourite at Eagle Farm last start, he settled mid-field and showed his trademark nice turn-of-foot to run over the top and bolted in. He looks a good thing.

Dangers:

PRIMITIVO (8) should be nearing peak fitness here third-up, he was a real eye-catcher last time over a mile after getting well back and running on hard. FUN FACT (6) and A MAN TO MATCH (5) come through the same race here last time, the former was brave after working early and copping interference and the latter won the race after running on hard from the back.

Race 4: MM Sprint Set Weights and Penalties 1200m

ISAURIAN (4) resumed off a 6-month break three weeks ago at Eagle Farm, he was perfectly ridden behind the speed before angling clear and running on hard. He looked to just switch off late or may have just run out of condition but did enough, there has already been one horse win out of that race.

Dangers:

SCALLOPINI (10) rarely runs a bad race and is a winner here at the track previously, he was good through the line but just found one better when resuming with a big gap to third. CHAMPAGNE CUDDLES (5) is resuming, we know she has all the talent in the world but it has been a while since she has won. Last start beaten 1.4 lengths behind Pierata reads well! KEMALPASA (1) is a real winner, he won 6 of 7 starts last prep before going to the paddock. He won a recent trial here at the track, and will be making his own luck up on the speed.

Race 5: MM Fillies and Mares Set Weights and Penalties 1300m

IRITHEA (2) officially ran sixth when resuming at Rosehill but she was very brave in defeat. She had to sit three-wide no cover throughout and was still only beaten about a half-length. She did feature in the stewards report with the thumps and has trialed well since with a month between runs.

Dangers:

INVINCIBELLA (1) has to lump the 60kg but she will find this a more suitable assignment. She will be giving them a start and is going for a win in this race for the third consecutive year. TAHITIAN DANCER (5) ran on hard to win at her Qld debut last time, INTO THE ABYSS (8) next best, resuming. She should be mid-field in the run and ridden for luck.

Race 6: MM 3YO Guineas Set Weights and Penalties 1400m

Hard to go past the favourite ALLIGATOR BLOOD (2). He has only tasted defeat once in his career , beaten by the narrowest margin in the Caulfield Guineas after sitting up on the speed and going for home and getting run down late. HE has been dominant in two runs back from a spell, this has been the target.

Dangers:

PROFIT (8) was good when second to the favourite last time when resuming, he won his only other second-up run and should be running on hard. LEVIATHAN (10) has not missed a place at his 5 career starts, he was beautifully ridden to score at Randwick last time after being very heavily backed. SUPERIUM (6) should get the gun run behind the leaders, just may need a little luck when the whips are cracking.

Race 7: 2YO MM Classic Set Weights 1200m

The feature of the day and looks a tough one to assess. AIM (5) showed a brilliant turn of foot to win at start two and stay undefeated, he worse than mid-fiel don the fence, held-up momentarily before angling clear and accelerating hard. He won by 4 with another 3 lengths back to third.

Dangers:

WISDOM OF WATER (6) is likely to be big odds but I like the way he came back fresh and looks to have improved. He has the benefit of a win here at the Gold Coast, if he can get the back of the top pick when the runs come, he can get into a place. CONCEITED (4) was also in that same race here at the track last time and was beaten when well in the market, he ran on hard but the horrible draw may see him get too far back. FARNAN (2) won the NSW lead-up at the Wyong MM, he sat outside the speed and was too strong. A bigger field here will not see him able to control the speed like he did that day.

Race 8: MM Cup Quality Handicap 1400m

DEEP IMAGE (3) has the horrible draw but it may just be a case that will mean we will get a better price! The Robert Heathcote trained gelding is so consistent, he is going for three straight wins and you know what you will get with him. He will roll forward and be on the speed. If he gets outside the leader cheaply, have a dabble in the run.

Dangers:

USAIN BOWLER (10) is better than what he showed in Sydney when resuming, he has versatility and a great record second-up. PHOBETOR (18) will get a run with the early scratching as the first emergency on the quick 7-day back-up after winning here last week, he maps beautifully and gets the services of Kerrin McEvoy.  VEGA ONE (6) is a last start winner but has had a month between runs, he was sharpened up with a trial win a couple of weeks ago.

Race 9: QTIS Open Quality Handicap 1300m

A tough way to finish the day, CHAPTER AND VERSE (3) won at Group Three level two start snack then ran on well last time into a place in a race where he wasn’t favoured by the tempo. He maps well and should be mid-field in the run, look for him late in an open race.

Dangers:

Most of them! OOMSARA (2) has good tactical speed and will be looking for the front, he loves racing here and won in this day last year in the 3YO feature. OUTBACK BARBIE (4) featured in the stewards report last start when well beaten, she is better than that. She has versatility and looks a great jockey change with JMac replacing Jim Byrne. EF TROOP (6) won at Listed level in SA two back then wasn’t far off the placings in that grade again at Caulfield last time.
