Flemington Racing Tips – Thur Apr 25

We will be at Flemington this Thursday.

Track: Good 4. Rail: Out 8m entire circuit.

Best Bet: Race 1 – BASS

===

Race 1: Handicap 2520m

I will be very surprised if BASS (7) doesn’t start in the red here. The import was scratched from the weekend in preference for this, he was off the map there so no surprises to see him backed heavily again. He was absolutely breathtaking at his Australian debut, dead last into the straight and very wide, he ran down the leader to which he spotted at least a dozen lengths to a bob of the heads at the finish. It really was the run of a horse going places.

Dangers:

SELF SENSE (1) will keep coming all day, VALAC (5) will be up on the speed and comes through a good form reference and SAMPSON (2) is a Kiwi visitor that ran second at Group Two level last start, but he is a 9YO. I just think the Lloyd Williams has so much upside, he is a star in the making. If you feel like a long-range futures bet, have something small on Bass on the first Tuesday in November.

Race 2: Handicap 1000m

ORDER OF COMMAND (4) has had a brief 9-week break, he was ok through the line from mid-field up the straight here last time where he has won a couple of races. Interestingly he gets the blinkers on for the first time, he flies fresh and looks hard to beat.

Dangers:

INVINCIBLE AL (3) I also resuming and races well here up the straight, he will be giving them a start and like the top pick, the inside draw should be ok with such a small field. BANDIPUR (2) had the perfect run at Caulfield to score last time. He didn’t go around a horse, different story here and happy to lay him even with the fitness edge. ROCK ‘N’ GOLD (1) will probably come to the middle of the track, but doubt he will be able to get on the speed as he likes to do.

Race 3: Anzac Day Stakes 2YO Handicap 1400m

SUPER SETH (1) bolted in by 6 on debut then went to a harder race at Caulfield and although he was favoured the way the race was run, his turn-of-foot when balanced from the back was unbelievable. He wouldn’t have been out of place in the Sydney features for 2YO, the 1400m looks ideal. He wins.

Dangers:

DESERVED (2) and WEDGETAIL (3) ran 2nd and 1st respectively at Sandown three weeks ago, there runs were equally as good as each other and it is hard to split them. CHAILLOT (5) was an impressive maiden winner against the girls recently. She charged home from out wide from a mile back, but this is a lot harder and she was huge odds.

Race 4: Super Vobis 3YO Handicap 1710m

ZOUY’S COMET (7) could not have been more impressive in his win at Cranbourne in an easier race last time, he had the gun run before accelerating and putting away his rivals in a few strides and was eased down late. Admittedly the draw is poor, he just needs cover and the right cart into it and the trip looks ideal.

Dangers:

ANALYTICA (5) has won two of his three career starts, he has shown that the 1700m should suit and has shown that he can go forward or back. ZALETTE (4) won all three starts at her first prep aand looked a world-beater, she has had three runs in this time, all against the best of her age group, but has been disappointing. This is easier but not sure she is as good as first thought? She was well backed last time and did have a tough run, a must include in a tough race. DECLARES WAR (2) has been given 5-weeks off and been gelded in that time, he showed plenty early in his career and may improve since having the chop.

Race 5: Super Vobis 3YO Handicap 1400m

BIG NIGHT OUT (8) put it all together last time, he showed his true ability at Sandown last start with a crushing win from well back. He maps beautifully here, a key at the 1400m and should be camped on the leaders ready to pounce. Expect him to be well backed.

Dangers:

ZOUTORI (3) resumed with a solid win at Pakenham, if he gets his own way in front, he will be hard to run down but he just may be a sitting shot for the top pick. OUTRAGEOUS (1) won nicely here three back and hasn’t had much luck in two runs since. He will also go forward. CAMP VIEW (5) has been very consistent and has only missed a place at one of his seven career starts, this is a harder and will be giving them a start.

Race 6: VRC St Ledger 3YO Set Weights 2800m

STARS OF CARRUM (1) has not placed this prep in six trips to the races, but this is clearly easier than what he has been racing. He has the talent clearly but is still yet to win out of maiden grade, He charged home in the Mornington Cup two back in a race where being on-pace was more favourable, then went to Sydney for the Derby and was wide without cover throughout and beaten a long way from home. Forgive him that run, this is his to lose.

Dangers:

TRANSACT (2) will be the one injecting pace into the race, if he finds the top and gets left alone, he will give them something to chase. CONVICT SAM (7) comes through the Galilee Final like a few of these, he kept coming in the straight and the extra distance looks to suit. AMERICAN IN PARIS (3) maps to get a soft run, he will be in the second half of the field and may need a little luck, but will run on hard as the gaps usually appear somewhere up the long straight.

Race 7: Handicap 1710m

MANTATSIC (3) comes through the Golden Mile form line at Bendigo last time that has produced two subsequent winners (although Haripour went poorly in Sydney as favourite on the weekend). Mantastic was well back and really powered to the line that day at Bendigo, he produced a similar barnstorming finish to win at Morphetville at Listed level prior to that. The big track here should suit his pattern.

Dangers:

HAPPY PHARRELL (2) is an interesting runner having his first Australian start for the Maher/Eustace stable. He won four of his first six races in France before tackling Group company at his next two. His trials here have only been fair but watch the betting. CALL ME HANDSOME (1) is very consistent, you know he will be up on the speed and keep finding in the straight. Happy to risk him to win though as he will likely have to do the work in the breeze. ZATACLA (9) has been racing well in Tasmania, he will also be on the speed but happy to risk him here.

Race 8: Fillies and Mares BM84 Handicap 1600m

WINKELMAN (9) resumed over a mile after a long break at the Valley last time. She had a perfect run in winning and got the run along the rails, was tiring late but that was to be expected. She has won second-up previously and draws to either lead or take the sit again.

Dangers:

She draws a lot better than her two main rivals. TEMPLE OF BEL (8) ran on well from the back at Caulfield last start in a race that favoured those on the speed. TRULY DISCREET (3) was the winner of that race, she was left a little flat footed up on the speed when they quickened but picked up nicely the last 100m and looks suited out to the mile. JESTER HALO (4) comes through a solid form race at Bendigo last start where she made ground against the tempo of the race.
