Flemington Racing Tips – Sat May 4
We will be at Flemington this Saturday.
Track: Good 3. Rail: Out 11m entire circuit.
Best Bet: Race 5 – #1 Grinzinger Star
Race 1: 2YO Fillies Set Weights and Penalties 1100m
MALDOVA (2) was 20/1 when she debuted at Bendigo three weeks ago, she showed good speed to lead and never looked like getting run down. She was strong through the line over the same trip which should indicate she will handle the straight, drawn wide is no disadvantage and she will be on the bunny for a long way.
MAQSAD (1) showed good speed winning on debut them led and was run down in a harder race in SA last time. EXQUISITE BEAUTY (6) was beaten as an odds-on favourite behind the top pick on debut, she over-raced and looks to have plenty to learn but obviously has the ability. A big watch goes on the Ellerton/Zahra runner PARMIE (11) on debut.
Race 2: BM78 Handicap 1620m
PHONEME (13) was given a nice run in transit when resuming against his own age group last start, he loomed up to win but just may have run out of condition late. He races well here and with that run under his belt, he should be close enough in the run to finish over the top.
GOLD MAG (5) travelled north and was rewarded, saluting in favourable heavy conditions in a race no easier than this. He was runner-up at his only other start here, draws well with a good claim and has had a good freshen-up. DR DRILL (3) was good at his Australian debut last start, he ran through the line well and was racing over further in the UK. Stepping up to the mile suits. SIR PIPPIN (2) is another import that has won both starts in Oz, he ran on well to score at Caulfield in a race where it didn’t necessarily suit his pattern.
Race 3: 3YO Fillies Handicap BM78 1410m
SEALED (13) is an interesting runner that gets in with no weight under the claim for King. She resumed at Cranbourne at maiden level against the girls at a very short quote, was a little flat-footed early in the straight but chased hard and was strong through the line. This is obviously harder but she maps beautifully, will have taken plenty from that run and carries no weight.
NEIGHBOURHOOD (7) was well found after her solid jump-out before a crushing maiden win, she was scratched last week so there may have been an issue. She can go on with it but not sure where she gets to in the run. FABRIC (8) had no luck at her first go out of maiden grade last start, she was held-up for a furlong before running on well in limited space. FIDELIA (1) was good winning at Sandown, she got all the runs with a nice ride. She will be mid-field and running on hard again and gets a good claim. This should be a good form reference going forward.
Race 4: Handicap 1410m
ADDICTIVE NATURE (4) was left a little flat-footed when resuming last start at Caulfield, she picked up well enough late and looks suited getting out to the seven furlongs. Prebble gets the ride, he looks better suited here where he is drawn further out and can come wide with his run.
A SHIN ROOK (3) went across to SA 3 weeks ago, he was held-up for a good part of the straight before getting clear and charging home for a most impressive win. He will be giving them a start but look for him late. CALL IT A DAY (10) maps to get the good run, ideal for the 1400m here at HQ around the long sweeping bend. He will jump and run and if left alone, will kick hard early in the straight. ANOTHER DOLLAR (6) is resuming for Waller off a long break, she will also get back in the wrong but if she can get the cart into it off the favourite she should sprint well fresh late.
Race 5: Super VOBIS 3YO Handicap 2000m
GRINZINGER STAR (1) has won back-to-back races at Caulfield leading into this, both in a style that you would say is more suitable here at Flemington, charging home out wide from the back. He has to carry the big weight back against his own age group but he is flying. Look for him late.
Forget that ZALATTE (2) went around here on Anzac Day. She saved ground into the straight but was held-up under a strangle hold most of the run home and never got a crack. Drawn the extreme barrier she will need a cracking ride, but she won’t be getting held-up back on the inner again you wouldn’t think. ANALYTICA (4) is lining up for start five at prep one which is usually a pen job, she will be up outside the speed but would need to get some cheap sectionals mid-race. PREDECESSOR (5) is versatile and looks the next best.
Race 6: Super VOBIS 3YO Handicap 1200m
TERBIUM (1) is undefeated through four career starts, he takes the step up in class easily each time it seems and was a Group Three winner at his latest beating Zousain in the process. (that’s when everyone still had an opinion of him). He looks a star of the future, his first go up the straight but draws perfectly in the middle of the line.
FINE DANE (3) has been up the straight before, beaten on his merits at Caulfield he will probably try and lead all the way.
HALVORSEN (2) bolted in at Caulfield second-up, he was a drifter in the betting and this looks a stronger field. He will be giving them a start and is also having his first look up the straight. A must in exotics but prefer to be against him as a winning proposition. LADY PLUCK (4) is a winner, she has been here before and placed, the Tasmanians must always be respected when they come across the strait. Cracking race!
Race 7: Handicap 2600m
STEEL PRINCE (3) will probably be the shortest priced favourite of the day, he is airborne the last two preps including winning all three this time in. He does everything right, sits just off the speed and is able to accelerate when asked. If he gets cover and is ridden like the best horse, he wins.
OBSERVATIONAL (4) surprised many last start by winning here at the track, he showed a good form reversal and will certainly run the trip. He was big odds that day, the harder they go early the better for him. SIN TO WIN (5) appeared to have every chance behind him last start on Anzac Day, he was well backed from double figures in but just finds it hard to win. SURPRISE BABY (1) is the last start Adelaide Cup winner, he was jumping from 2000m to the two miles that day and now drops back to the 2600m. He can sustain a long run late in the race, the Preusker team is one of the most under-rated in the state, as that last start shows.
Race 8: Handicap 1800m
MANTATSTIC (6) was easy in the betting late on Anzac Day here, he settled well back before coming with one run before peaking late. He officially ran 5th but was beaten only 0.6 lengths, he faces a similar line-up here and hopefully they wait just a little longer to make their run.
CALL ME HANDSOME (4) was second in that same race, he was up outside the [seed throughout and stuck on well when he looked beaten late. He will be hard to run down again. BOOM TIME (1) gets the good claim, he is the class runner, a Caulfield Cup winner and Japan Cup runner, hopefully he can find his best and should be fully fit here. HOME BY MIDNIGHT (2) is an interesting runner, a former Kiwi now trained out of the Payne yard, he wasn’t far away when runner-up in the Auckland Cup last time.
Race 9: BM84 Handicap 1200m
GALAXY RAIDER (6) is racing first-up, he was last seen here in Cup Day where he fell when running onto the race nicely after clipping heels. That was at Listed level, he has trialed ok and hopefully the fall hasn’t hurt his confidence. Will be interesting to see if there is any money for him.
All of them? Tough race to finish, capacity field up the straight but what a great sight it is.
If PETRELLE (14) gets a start she will create interest. She is up in grade but has shown plenty, she has the speed to lead or take a sit and the straight should suit her. SPIRIT OF AQUADA (8) will be giving them a start but should be finishing better than any. MILWAUKEE (2) has won two from four up the straight here, she has only been fair at two runs back from a long spell but should be fully fit now. Play wide in the Quaddie!
