Flemington Racing Tips
Best Bet: Race 1- AL PASSEM
Race 1: BM96 Handicap 1600m
AL PASSEM (2) blew the start in the Sale Cup, got up outside the leader and loomed approaching the straight and stuck on well when well favoured. This looks no harder and if Manuel doesn’t start he looks the best of good things.
MANUEL (3) went very close on Tuesday and if he backs-up here he will give a sight up on the speed. CALL IT A DAY (6) will go forward and may be the leader, he is racing consistently but a little concerning how long he has been up for. LOYALTY MAN (1) drops back from Group Three company at Caulfield where he was very one paced.
Race 2: BM90 Handicap 2000m
DANOM ROMAN (7) was runner-up behind Lucky For All who is also engaged here, he was held-up slightly before sticking on well after levelling up. He gets the winkers here for the first time and maps to get a very soft run.
LUCKY FOR ALL (5) beat him home last time, he was nicely ridden to run on well out wide. He did a few things wrong in the straight and may have won by more if he went straight. He may have to make the run solo though. THE PINNACLE (6) is an interesting runner down from NSW, she should be at peak fitness now but may struggle from the wide gate. TOP PROSPECT (11) ran on well in the Horsham Cup but this is harder. He has been out of the winner’s circle for a long time.
Race 3: VRC Springtime Stakes 3YO 1400m
SUNSET WATCH (3) looks the leader and around the 7 furlongs here if you can kick around the bend you can steal a length or two on those that need to make long wide runs. She was good when resuming leading all the way at the Valley, then was close-up at that same track last time but he did have every chance. Look for him to go wire to wire.
YULONG JANUARY (4) also will go forward early but may have to sit outside the leader. He handles all conditions and he was most unlucky at Caulfield not to stay undefeated after the riderless horse was more than a nuisance late. RINGERDINGDING (6) will get back, he was the real eye-catcher at the Valley last time, after being held-up he charged home out wide and was finishing two to there one. Nobody missed that run, he will likely start under the odds because of that. WAGNER (9) also comes through that race at the valley but had every chance and didn’t finish near as well.
Race 4: Chatham Stakes 1400m
MR SNEAKY (7) is better than his last run suggests, go on his form earlier this prep where he had been running on hard. He looks better suited back here on the big track, he should be able to settle closer and charge late.
WIDGEE TURF (1) has been up for a long time which is a little concerning but he is so consistent so why not keep racing him. He will be giving them a start but shouldn’t be covering much ground before running on late. DREAMFORCE (4) worked overtime at Caulfield up on the speed but he was favoured by how the track was playing that day. He may have to work again from the wide draw. DOLLAR FOR DOLLAR (3) would have been near the top of the selections had he not been drawn so poorly, it is very hard to sit wide here at the 1400m around the long sweeping bend.
Race 5: Queen Elizabeth Stakes 2600m
GALLIC CHIEFTAIN (2) was ok in the Lexus on Saturday and that form has been franked with the winner running a belter in the cup on Tuesday, he was good previously in the Caulfield Cup the start before that also. This looks easier and he gets a soft run on the rails.
LIBRAN (1) made a long searching run in the Moonee Valley Gold Cup, he also has had a long run of outs but is racing consistently. JAAMEH (7) also comes through the Lexus and was held-up at a vital stage. NORTHWEST PASSAGE (8) will go forward as he did last Saturday, he will be up on the pace for a long way with the blinkers back on today.
Race 6: Matriarch Stakes Mares 2000m
ALOISIA (1) has not won a race in more than a year but she looks to be regaining some form. Her run in the Tristarc was super running fast last sectionals, then was here last Saturday and although beaten almost three lengths, she was still coming late. She has the big weight but oozes talent when she is right.
TEMPLE OF BEL (11) was the real eye-catcher on Saturday in the lead-up to this that some of the field contested. She got well back and charged home. Look for her late. SAVVY COUP (2) was outclassed in the Cox Plate last time and looks much better suited here. She was a Group One winner in NZ prior to that run and has some class. SHEEZDASHING (8) kept coming in the Cranbourne Cup and will keep grinding away.
Race 7: VRC Sprint Classic WFA 1200m
What a race! REDZEL (1) made it back-to-back Everest wins last start when leading throughout on the heavy track. He has had a month off in between runs but has trialed well since. He loves it up the straight here and looks hard to beat again.
SANTA ANA LANE (3) wasn’t suited the way the race was run in the Everest and did have a chequered passage, he doesn’t have a great record up the straight here but he will be running on hard. PIERATA (6) couldn’t have been more impressive on that same day at Randwick in an easier race, the 1200m looks his ideal distance. KEMENTARI (7) has been luckless this whole prep, at his best he will finish too hard for them. He was touted as the one to beat Winx earlier this prep! Cracking race!
Race 8: Mackinnon Stakes WFA 2000m
BLAIR HOUSE (3) is a Group One winner earlier in the year in Dubai, ran on well at his Australian debut and did the same in the Caulfield Stakes last time. That form line looks superior for this type of race, look for him late
TRAP FOR FOOLS (4) was snubber a start in the Cox Plate but came out on the same day and ran a bottler in the Gold Cup attempting to lead all the way. He was favoured by how the track was playing that day but he will give a sight here. LATROBE (7) is a new addition for Lloyd Williams, he is an Irish derby winner mid-way through the year and obviously has a stack of ability. If he is ready to go he will be hard to beat. SHILLELAGH (8) was brilliantly ridden running on hard on Saturday and gets the seven-day back-up here.
Race 9: Grand Handicap BM80 Handicap 1100m
What a way to finish the carnival. If you are behind up until now, here is your chance to get out with some very nice horses at big prices! EURACK (9) is undefeated through four career starts, she has not been seen in 40 weeks so she has obviously had some issues. She has good tactical speed and drawn the widest which may be the spot to be in this, the last race of the carnival.
Most of them. BEACON (8) is very consistent and brings good form down from Sydney, likely to be settled in the middle of the pack, look for him late. REVENIRE (4) is a stablemate of his also coming down from Sydney, he gets the blinkers for the first time and is also having his first go up the straight. ESPERANCE (2) rounds out the trifecta of Godolphin hopes, he was ok at the Valley and is also drawn wide. Look for what they come for out of the stablemates to see who should be finishing ahead of the others.
