Caulfield Racing Tips – Sat Feb 8th

We will be at Caulfield  this Saturday.

Track: Good 4. Rail: True.

Best Bet: Race 2: HOW WOMANTIC

===

Race 1: Handicap 1800m

VENICE BEACH (2) has had three runs in Oz since arriving from the UK for the Lloyd Williams team and will be having his first start for Melbourne Cup winning trainer Danny O’Brien. His only run here at the track he stuck on well in the Naturalism in the Spring, first-up at the 1800m shouldn’t be an issue.

Dangers:

STREET SHEIK (5) is going for a hattrick of wins after killing them in the Terang Cup when heavily backed and then ran on over the top of them in the Great Western Cup last time. He will keep coming. SIR PIPPIN (8) has been up for a while but is racing very consistently, NO COMMITMENT (9) is up in grade and should be nearing peak fitness here fourth-up.

Race 2: Kevin Hayes Stakes 3YO Fillies Set Weights and Penalties 1200m

HOW WOMANTIC (2) is a star in the making, I am certain of that. We were all over her before her debut off a fantastic jump-out, she has put three on end together to stay undefeated to start her career.  The latest was at the Valley in the Gold Carat where she sat up on the speed and was way too good for her rivals.

Dangers:

None. She is the best of the day. For the minors, SCORE (5) is going for three wins in a row, she stormed home here last time to win having her first go out of maiden grade, SOUTHBANK (6) is resuming off a long break, she led for a long way here in the Thousand Guineas in the Spring and was only run down late. AQUITAINE (3) score a hattrick of wins in NSW before being narrowly defeated last time. Not sure how that form will stack up against these.

Race 3: Blue Diamond Prelude 2Yo Fillies Set Weights 1100m

Tough race with so many likely to improve and this is not the GF! FRESH (4) was very easy in the market when resuming but ran a cracking race in the preview, she settled mid-field, eased wide at the turn and closed the entire straight but couldn’t run down the leader. There was a big gap to third, the inside is the only worry. A BEAUTIFUL NIGHT (1) has won two in a row including the preview here two weeks ago. She led all the way, will be rock hard fit and hard to catch again. MUNTASEERA (2) looks to have more ability than most but a little weary that she is resuming today and may be peaking for the finals in a fortnight. Her maiden win in Sydney before going to the paddock was brilliant. RIVERINA STORM (7) won a much easier race on debut last time but looks to be going places, Oliver rides and should be hitting the line hard.

Race 4: Blue Diamond Prelude Set Weights 2YO Colts and Geldings 1100m

HANSEATIC (1) was sent to the paddock off a brilliant debut, resumed in the preview for boys here two weeks ago. He was heavily backed and settled worse than mid-field, came 5-wide to the turn and showed a devastating turn-of-foot to run away and bolt in by 2.45 lengths. He is the real deal.

Dangers:

RULERSHIP (7) led all the way to win easily on debut, this is harder but he has plenty of speed and will kick hard on the turn. JABALI RIDGE (5) ran through the line hard to win up the straight last time, different story around the bend here and is likely to be caught wide. VALAQUENTA (9) was well backed late to win an easier race at the Valley, no doubt plenty of improvement in him and maps well.

Race 5: Autumn Stakes 3YO Set Weights and Penalties 1400m

BANQUO (3) was a little flat fresh up the straight but was ok late, he was good around the bend to win second-up last prep. He was well favoured at G2 level in the Sandown Guineas before going to the paddock, he looks to have plenty of upside.

Dangers:

SAVVY LAD (8) is an ex-Kiwi that has been gelded and showed plenty in NZ before coming here. Would like to see some money for him first-up in Oz. MICROPHONE (1) was runner-up in the Slipper then runner-up the start following before heading to the paddock. He was good when having no luck late last start at the Valley, looks better suited on the bigger track here. ADELAIDE ACE (6) was too good with the big weight when resuming, sat off the track and toyed with his rivals and looks to have come back well. Harder here.

Race 6: Rubiton Stakes Set Weights and Penalties 1100m

ANAHEED (10) is resuming, she was a Group Two winner here two starts back then placed in the Manikaoto before going to the paddock. She has won a trial north of the border, she was poor when fresh last campaign but pulled up lame after a torrid run.

Dangers:

No confidence at all in the race. AGE OF CHIVALRY (5) is resuming, he placed in back-to-back Group Ones in the Spring. He has tactical speed, just worried that he may have to sit parked. He has class! ALL TOO ROYAL (3) won at Listed level here at the track on Boxing Day. He ran on hard from mid-field to score, last time at Flemington up the straight he was coming all the way through the line. Better suited here back around the bend. WILD PLANET (2) was too classy when last seen in NSW to win the Inglis sale race back in May, he has a good record fresh.

Race 7: TS Carlyon Cup 4YO and Up Set Weights and Penalties 1600m

MISS SISKA (10) is resuming and has a great record fresh. She is straight to the mile fresh which is a little concerning but has trialed well. Last prep she was runner-up in back-to-back Group Two races and showed a lot of toughness in those runs.

Dangers:

GUIZOT (5) didn’t have much luck in the Chester Manifold two starts back then hit the line well against the bias last time here at Listed level. Look for him late. ODEON (2) broke through at Listed level here two starts back then led for a long way at Flemington last start. Willow replaces Michael Poy, that cannot be overlooked.  HARLEM (1) is resuming and probably needs longer but will get home hard if the speed is on. He has the class.

Race 8: C.F.Orr Stakes WFA 1400m

BEGOOD TOYA MOTHER (10) will be better for the run in the Australia Stakes first-up against a similar line-up and looks better suited back here at Caulfield where he has won three races. He over-raced badly in the run and was knocked off balance late, wouldn’t have won but was better than then the 4.45 length beaten margin suggests. If he can’t cross and lead, he should get cover.

Dangers:

SCALES OF JUSTICE (3) was brilliant when resuming, he had the perfect run behind the leaders and dashed hard when the split came. Doesn’t get that soft run here though? HEY DOC (2) led them up in the lead-up last time and was no match for the smart winner who is also engaged here, there should be pressure from the outside early as well today. NIGHT’S WATCH (9) will want further but can sprint well fresh, he may be the beneficiary of what looks a good clip on paper.

Race 9: Geoffrey Bellmaine Stakes 4YO and Up Mares Set Weights and Penalties 1200m

SYLVIA’S MOTHER (9) is a beauty, she has trialed well enough in NSW and has won fresh previously. Last prep she was a winner up the straight then placed behind the speedy Pippie here at Group Two level last start on a day when it was favourable to be up on the speed.

Dangers:

BAM’S ON FIRE (6) never runs a bad race, she was rewarded with her consistency this prep with a win at Sandown last start. She will come across from out wide and look for cover on the speed. FIDELIA (4) is resuming, when last in work she was racing well without getting a win and then was well back and never in the race at the last start before going to the paddock. Watch the betting for her resuming. NEWS GIRL (8) will find this harder but has won back-to-back races against the girls down in grade. She maps well and will have the option to lead or take a sit.
