Caulfield Racing Tips – Sat Apr 6
We will be at Caulfield this Wednesday.
Track: Rail: Out 9m entire circuit.
Best Bet: Race 6 – FLYING KRUPT
Race 1: Super VOBIS 2YO Handicap 1100m
Tough race to start the day with only four of the ten taken the float trip to the races before. MEUSE (7) is one of them, she was favoured the way the race was run but she showed good speed to lead all the way and never looked in danger. If she can land on the bunny again, she will be hard to run down.
She clearly looks the best of the raced brigade, look for any serious money for those on debut, particularly FLOSTAR (8) and PEAK (6). ORDER OF VALOUR (2) won at his only start, he was all out on the line in a much easier maiden at Kyneton. He has the speed to be a pest to the top selection though.
Race 2: BM78 Handicap 1600m
MR RECKLESS (6) draws horrendously out in 16, but that’s ok, we may just get a better price now. The import for Waller has only had the one run in Australia, he was very one paced and would have taken plenty from the run, placing at Flemington after 22 weeks off. No doubt Allen will ride him conservatively, look for him late if he gets a cart into it. Expect that there will be a little more sharpness to him today second-up.
DANON ROMAN (2) won on debut in Japan and is yet to win since, not that he doesn’t have the ability but he has clearly had his chances. All five runs in Oz have been good enough, second-up last campaign he ran 5th but was a total forgive run and charged through the line. INTUERI (9) has good speed and looks the leader, this is his first go here and will be hard to catch if he can get a cheap sectional or two mid-race. I GOT YOU (10) is a former Kiwi looking for his first win on our soil at start four, he was ridden a lot closer last time as I expect him to do here form the good draw.
Race 3: Fillies and Mares BM84 Handicap 1600m
LA TIGERESA (5) won two in a row earlier this campaign, she then went to Flemington and ran on well in a race where the tempo didn’t suit. Last start at the Valley she once again ran on well after getting very wide, Maps better here and will hit the line well.
THINK BLEUE (2) and PURE SCOT (1) both come through the Matron Stakes on the big track at Flemington, the latter beat the former home but there is a significant weight turnaround here. REMEMBER THE NAME (7) was never in it last time over the mile at Flemington, she got too far back in a race that was dominated by those on the speed. She has placed at 2 of 3 here at the track. Plenty of chances.
Race 4: Super VOBIS 3YO Handicap 1600m
MR QUICKIE (1) is a winner, he charged home to win at Flemington fresh then went to Mornington on their stand-alone meeting and won the Guineas there. He was three-wide with cover before coming very wide, joining in quickly and charging clear. He gets the good claim, this looks no harder.
STAR MISSILE (4) bundled the start in the Mornington Guineas, he was never really sighted but there was a lot to like about his last furlong. Look for him late. Happy to stick with these two as the only winning chances and have them both collecting even amounts. WINNING PARTNER (2) ventured north and was beaten out of sight by Verry Elleegant last time, he will appreciate coming back against this lot on top of the ground. GRINZIGER STAR (6) is yet to win out of maiden grade, if he can get a cart into it by one of the more fancied runners he can run a place.
Race 5: 3YO Fillies Handicap 1100m
THINE IS THE POWER (6) has been super this prep without getting a win, her latest she ran on hard up the straight from well back to miss by the barest possible margin. She maps to be a lot closer here and hopefully the y ride her for luck between runners.
Plenty of them in what looks a very open race. LADY PLUCK (5) will have plenty of support following her last couple of wins in Tassie, she will go forward and be on the speed. APERITIF (4) is also very consistent, she showed a good turn-of-foot before peaking late in that same straight race that the top pick and a few others come through. TELL ME (2) was good through the line after racing on the speed when winning fresh, she won second-up last campaign but just may need a little luck early from the wide draw getting cover.
Race 6: Mares Handicap 1100m
FLYING KRUPT (5) is second-up today, she was super resuming up the straight last time after being held-up at a vital stage before charging late over the last 100m. She has won twice second-up previously and is a winner at her only start at the track, she should have the cold sit on the leaders.
LEATHER ‘N’ LACE (8) is racing fresh, has left the Weir yard and his having her first go for the Ellerton/Zahra yard. She was very consistent in harder races than this last time without winning. NON PAEAR (10) has only finished back further back than 2nd once this campaign in 7 runs, she will go forward and probably have to try and control the tempo from the spot outside the leader. MAMZELLE TESS (4) comes through the same race as the top pick, she was good up on the speed but was huge odds.
Race 7: Handicap 1200m
SPIRIT OF AQUADA (13) ran on hard when sweeping wide at the Valley resuming, she then was well back up the straight last time before flashing late and missing by the barest possible margin. He will be giving them a start again but look for him late with no weight on his back.
MASTERING (12) comes through the same race and also hit the line well, she didn’t have a lot of luck late and looks value at double figures.
SUPERHARD (9) was never on the track dropping back to the 955m last time, he maps to be closer stepping up to the 6 furlongs. BLAZE FORTH (6) is up from Tassie, he has been flying down there but surely must be nearing the end of his prep.
Race 8: Anniversary Vase Handicap 1400m
Sticking with the Tassie’s to keep their great Autumn going, HELLOVA STREET (1) was good at Flemington last time, he was favoured the way the race was run but stuck on well only to be nabbed late. He will go forward again and try to lead no doubt but will have to improve on his poor record at the track. He is flying though and can do so.
NAANTALI (13) won here four starts back, was runner-up in the Mannerism at this track again following that in a huge run where she was wide throughout. She is racing so well and goes well here on her home turf. HEPTAGON (14) was a brilliant last start winner, she maps well to have the sit on the leaders and rarely runs a bad race. They look the three, throw in MALAISE (12) for the minors, he was ok behind Heptagon at Echuca.
Race 9: Handicap 2000m
THUNDER CLOUD (13) gets the blinkers back on today after placing at his last couple, he has run on well on both occasions when the tempo may not have suited that pattern. He gets in very light with the claim for star apprentice Theo Nugent.
VALAC (14) looks the leader, he was brave in defeat last time when fighting hard all the way up the Flemington straight. If he gets left alone in front, he will be hard to run down. SHEZADASHING (9) has been running on well but a little concerning that she is still yet to win out of maiden grade. OUR LIBRETTO (7) won second-up last prep as she is today, she was only fair when resuming and looked very flat. Happy to take her on here.
