Canterbury (Wed)

Canterbury Racing Tips – Wed June 5

We will be at Canterbury this Wednesday.

Track: Good 4. Rail: Out 6m entire circuit.

Best Bet: Race 7 – SONAREE

Race 1: 3YO Maiden Handicap 1550m

MILUKA (1) has placed at all three of her career runs and won’t be a maiden for long. She gets the winkers on here for the first time today, she was beaten first-up when well in the market but wasn’t disgraced. She was poorly away and well back before running on hard for second, JMac goes on and the small field suits.

BRILLIANCE SQUARED (3) gets the blinkers on for the first time, he was racing consistently before being outclassed at 74 grade last time. Expect him to be closer in the run with the gear change. DISCOMBE (2) looks the leader, he was beaten as favourite at Canberra last start after kicking on the corner. If he gets a few cheap sectionals and rails hard here he will be hard to run down. ZENARDINI (8) will also go forward and challenge early, she was heavily backed at Gosford last time and didn’t run out the mile. She had issues though and was featured in the steward’s report.

Race 2: 2YO Maiden Handicap 1100m

SHIELDED (2) ran a nice race at Wyong last time when running on well but was no match for the exciting Exceedance that day. That horse has come out and run a belter on Saturday he has speed and loses nothing with Clipperton going on. The wide draw is a little concern but they only have the one turn to navigate.

BLAZING MISS (1) was favourite in that race at Wyong and appeared to have every chance when in front, she has placed at Group Three level last campaign. L’COSMO (5) appeared to have every chance last time, she had a soft run in behind the speed here at the track and maps to get a similar run in transit. Watch for any money for those on debut, particularly AQUITAINE (7) from the Godolphin yard, they have had quite a season with the babies.

Race 3: 2&3YO Maiden Plate Set Weights 1250m

Tough race as I am not really keen on any of those we have seen before. Play around the first-starters and see where the money comes late. KNICKPOINT (8) and ZAKAT (9) are both from the Godolphin yard, McEvoy rides the former and you would think he would have had the choice of Rachel King? FUNSTAR (10) is a Waller debutant that has trialed well. From those that have been to the races before, I expect SKYANN (6) to show a lot more than what she did last prep. She was well supported at both runs and has trialed well enough.

Race 4: 4YO&Up BM70 Handicap 1900m

MELLORS (7) is an interesting runner travelling up the Hume, hard to line him up but he has been racing really well south of the border. He was so brave in defeat when sitting wide without cover on the speed last time, he stuck on well and was beaten the shortest possible margin in a race that favoured those back in the field.

VEGA (2) has been up for an eternity but is still racing well, he maps to get a soft run again in behind the speed. He has been very consistent and drops back in class from his last start at Warwick Farm when not beaten far. LOVEISILI (3) is an import that looks to have plenty of upside, he was a dominant winner at Hawkesbury last time after being heavily backed, this is a lot harder though. LADY EVELYN (10) had no luck here at the track last time in an easier race and should have finished a lot closer

Race 5: Colts Geldings and Entires BM70 Handicap 1250m

I’M A LEGEND (4) has to step up in grade again, he won his maiden fresh after showing a great turn-of-foot form the back then went to Wyong and once again ran on hard form the back at Class 1 level. Look for him late but make sure the track is not playing favourably to the on-pacers early.

RAFHA’S CHOICE (3) was brave in defeat here last time after a torrid run, his win at Wagga prior to that run was brilliant. Just needs to get the cover and be saved for one run. GENERALISSIMO (1) was good last time and improved off a poor fresh run, he was held-up most of the straight and never really got a crack at them. MANZANA (5) is an interesting runner, he has good tactical speed and Tim Clark knows how to rate one in front. If he jumps well off the inside, he will try to lead all of the way.

Race 6: Fillies and Mares BM70 Handicap 1250m

This looks the toughest race of the day. LICKO’ PAINT (11) is an interesting runner for the Hayes/Hayes/Dabernig yard. She bolted in to win her maiden at Sandown last prep and then was beaten as favourite in town at her first go out of that grade. She takes on the older horses here fresh but has trialed really nicely.

TRANSMITTER (2) is second-up and won that pattern last prep, she had a tough run resuming but kept coming in the straight without threatening. JMac goes on. MEDOVINA (1) was a good winner last start but has to carry 6kg more here. She will be giving them a start, look to see which of these Godolphin runners the serious money is for. WALK THE RUNWAY (7) comes through a good form reference here a month ago, she was held-up at a vital stage and hit the line well enough when clear.

Race 7: 4YO&Up BM70 Handicap 1550m

If you had to play wide in the previous leg of the Quaddie, happy to go one out here with SONAREE (4). His win here last time was super, he sat close to the speed wide with no cover, was under pressure in the straight but kept coming when challenged. He did plenty wrong and was still too good. The wide draw will just mean a better price.

BALMAIN BOY (5) ran on well but had his chance at Warwick Farm last time, he needs to improve on his poor second-up record. TIM’S PRINCIPAL (6) is consistent but doesn’t win out of turn, he ran on well here at the track last time. GUIPURE (8) will have supporters but looks a great lay. She will be giving them a start and appeared to have every chance last time.
