Canterbury Racing Tips – Wed May 8
We will be at Canterbury this Wednesday.
Track: Good 4. Rail: True.
Best Bet: Race 3 – KNOWITALL JACK
Race 1: 2YO Fillies Maiden Handicap 1200m
Tough start to the day with so many unknowns. MADDI ROCKS (8) is one of those, she is on debut for the Waller yard. a recent trial winner here where she looked very impressive winning by a widening margin.
KAHLO (7) has been to the races, she was held-up at a vital stage in a much harder race than this but should have hit the line harder than what she did. The winkers go on and she looks better suited back in this grade. Watch the betting with CALIFORNIA ZIMBOL (4), she has been good in three trials for the Snowden’s leading into this and draws out, that should be no disadvantage. TRACY MAY (2) is a stablemate to our top pick, she was poorly away on debut but hit the line well at Randwick. The inside looks to be the major hurdle for her.
Race 2: 2YO Colts and Geldings Maiden Handicap 1200m
A capacity field of male juveniles makes the second no easier, five of them facing the starter for the first time. TWENTYFOUR CARAT (11) ran on hard at his debut and was sent to the paddock. he resumed at Randwick a fortnight ago and had no luck when needing a run, he got out and charged through the line. Hopefully the wide draw will see him making his own luck.
DISRUPTOR (2) draws the carpark for his third career start, he was brave in defeat at Randwick when resuming after being very wide without cover throughout. He will have to do it that way again here no doubt. BIGBOYROY (1) draws the opposite side of the track on the rail, he is resuming and has placed at his only two starts when racing in Brisbane. DISCHARGED (4) was also wide throughout on debut here, he maps to get a better run here today. Tough race.
Race 3: 3YO Maiden Handicap 1250m
Very keen on KNOWITALL JACK (2) here resuming. He showed enough at his first two starts but more importantly, he has trialed very nice for this return. He was held together in a Randwick trial and finished off best without getting into top gear, he maps to be handy and any money for him would increase the confidence.
ENGLAND (1) is also resuming, he wasn’t used up in his trial in the same day but he looks to be giving away a start to the top pick here form the draw and likely map. TAPICONIC (3) steps up in class but he has serious talent, he was all over the shop when heavily tried at Wyong last time and the addition of the blinkers was a must. He could just be too good? SEDGEMOOR (4) is resuming for Team Godolphin, gelded in his time off he was ok in a much easier maiden on debut. Watch the betting with him.
Race 4: BM70 Handicap 1550m
They advised of different tactics last time on JULIAN ROCK (2), to be ridden closer, he was but he never settled and did well to stick on and be beaten under a length in a blanket go. The blinkers come off which should see him relax better, up on the speed he will be hard to run down.
There only looks four chances in the race. WARUNA (6) should be at peak fitness third-up, she will be giving them a start but will be suited by the one turn here. SMILING CITY (8) has been up for a while but is consistent, he will probably try to find the front early. BRING THE MAGIC (10) is drawn wide and looks the other winning chance, she won her maiden to start this prep but has been ok since without being brilliant.
Race 5: BM70 Handicap 1900m
NAPOLEON SOLO (1) has had two runs back, both in harder races than this. He was godo through the line resuming after getting a late spit, then went to Qld for the Gunsynd Classic and although he never threatened, he was good through the line. Look for him late here.
UNA FUERZE (7) was first-up in Australia from America at Randwick last time, she was unwanted in the betting but paced nicely and will improve off the run. WELSH LEGEND (8) has had a trial in the month between runs, he wasn’t far away in a much harder race and wasn’t suited by the speed. Happy to take on WOLFE (2). He missed a run before resuming last start, he was very one paced and had every chance. He will probably improve with the blinkers off but need to see it first.
Race 6: BM74 Handicap 1250m
ROCKIN’ RUGA (5) was brilliant resuming. They advised that they would ride more prominent, he jumped well, led and kicked on the turn and won comfortably. If he can find the bunny again here, he will be very hard to run down. If the track is playing favourably to those on the speed, get on early in the day as they will back him.
KOLDING (4) was good winning resuming off a 7-week break, not sure where he will get top off the inside draw though. He is very consistent and will only need even luck to run on strong. CHAPELCO (1) was resuming off a long break at Randwick last start, he was held-up at a vital time, forget he even went around.
CHARRETERA (6) has only missed a place once at his 5 career starts, he is likely to be a little further back here and looks a good risk up in grade.
Race 7: BM70 Handicap 1100m
GODODDIN (9) is resuming after almost a year off the scene, she took on the Sires in SA when last seen, a much harder race than this. She clearly has the talent for a race like this, it is just a matter of whether she is ready to go after a long break. She has trialed twice, wining one of them.
MEDOVINA (7) is a stablemate to the top pick, she ran on hard from the back at the Kenso track when resuming. LANCASTER BOMBER (5) is an interesting runner resuming, he has been gelded in his time in the paddock and has trialed ok. KOONUNGA (3) has had her runs spaced this prep, she was ok at Gosford when wide with cover last time. She was slow to recover so we can forgive her that run. She will settle a lot closer here and be on the speed for a long way.
