Canterbury (Fri)

Canterbury Racing Tips -Fri Dec 13

We will be at Canterbury this Friday.

Track: Good 4. Rail: Out 6m entire circuit.

Best Bet: Race 4 – CHOCALTIER

Race 1: 3YO Colts and Geldings Maiden Handicap 1200m

BATTLEGROUND (1) is a first-starter for the Snowdens that has been given plenty of time, he was first seen at the trials back in September last year. His latest at Rosehill he was brilliant, he sat fourth on the inside, angled around the leaders at the top of the straight and pinged through a narrow gap and in a couple of strides put them away. It really was a nice turn-of-foot.

HELLBENDERS (4) has placed at his last couple, he has good tactical speed and will go forward. LUVOIR (8) made some ground from the back when resuming in a race where it was favourable to be up on the speed, the extra trip suits and it looks a good positive jockey change. FAETHM (7) was poor when resuming after sitting very wide without cover, he featured in the report as slow to recover so we can forgive him that run as there was money for him.

Race 2: Maiden Plate Set Weights 1900m

DIAMONDS AND RUST (9) has been runner-up at both runs this campaign, she tried to lead all the way at Canterbury last start but just found one that sprinted better. She did stick on well enough and if she finds the front and can run at an even tempo, she will be hard to run down.

TRIESTE (10) was beaten at a very short quote last time at Gosford, she was also up on the speed and after getting the better of the leader, found one better. OXIDISATION (3) has had enough chances and is still a maiden after ten career starts. She showed enough last time running on from the back that she may be suited by the likely good tempo. SOUTHERN QUEEN (4) improved last start in what was her third start since coming over from NZ, she was heavily backed late.

Race 3: 3YO Fillies Maiden Handicap 1200m

BEST STONE (6) has placed at all three career runs, two of them since resuming from the paddock. She tried to lead all the way at Hawkesbury but was run down late in a race that has proved to be a good form reference, then came here last time and was very unlucky, held-up for most of the straight and never got a crack at them.

Chris Waller has two on debut, the best at the trilas has been MIMESIS (9), so watch to see if there is any money for her. Is L’COSMO (1) ever going to win a race? She has placed at 7 of her 8 starts, she was easy in the betting last time at Kembla but still deep in the red, sat up on the speed and dashed clear in the straight before being run down late. There was a huge gap to third though. SINGLE BLONDE (2) gets a favourable jockey change with Tim Clark legging up, from the Gai/Bott stable she was only fair after having every chance when resuming and no doubt will be making her own luck.

Race 4: Colts Geldings and Entires BM70 Handicap 1900m

CHOCOLATIER (1) resumed over 1550m here last time and was run down after leading, he will be fitter for the run. He won Second-up at his first campaign, no doubt he will be leading turning for him. Clark on, Rawiller off.

NEWTOWN BLUEBAG (5) surprised winning at big odds here at the track last start, he will ge ta cheap run in transit and does have to carry the extra weight. A repeat performance of that run would see him go close again. STARDOME (3) has been a little hit-or-miss this campaign, a string winner three back and produced some good late sectionals last time to run second. He is on the 6-day back-up from Rosehill last Saturday. FASTNET CYCLONE (4) has been consistent but has been up for a long time, hopefully they ride him positive out of the gate form the inside and have him closer than last time.

Race 5: Colts Geldings and Entires BM70 Handicap 1100m

AUXIN (8) got the maiden out of the way at start 6 last time at Wyong, he was up outside the speed and did best in the run home in a tough effort. He will find this harder but that win was impressive and gets  a similar map here.

ROOSEVELT (4) is the stablemate that has the blinkers back on today, he has only been racing fairly but will find this easier. I expect that he will settle a little closer than what he has been. CELER (3) is resuming and has trialed well enough, he needs to overcome a poor fresh record and is having his first go here at the track. MOSSMAN GORGE (2) has been very consistent throughout his career, he wasn’t far away at Kembla when resuming and will be making his own luck up on the speed.

Race 6: Fillies and Mares BM70 Handicap 1100m

ZANIAH (4) won both starts last prep, she resumed at Warwick Farm in a similar race to this a couple of weeks ago. She led and never looked like getting run down in a race that has produced two subsequent winners. Hugh Bowman retains the ride, she will go forward again.

MEDITATE (6) is undefeated after three starts and resumes today. The last time we saw her she was very very short in the betting and destroyed them in an easier race at Nowra after leading all the way. She may be one out of the box, if the money comes for her, don’t have her going around a loser for you. SULKING (12) is an interesting runner that won on debut in Qld then was spelled and sent south to the Hawkes yard. She showed good speed resuming but may have to sit parked here. SOPHIELLA (5) has been up for a long time but is very consistent.

Race 7: Evening Star BM76 Handicap 1550m

TUNERO (4) has the wide draw to overcome but he will get back anyway. He has hit the line well in placing at two runs since resuming, the big field should suit with the tempo being better than average. Look for him late.

FALCON ISLAND (3) gets Tim Clark going on, he has good tactical speed but will need to kick through from the inside gate early. If he doesn’t jump and isn’t able to lead early, happy to lay him in the run. CONDOR (5) has been up for a while and has been racing inconsistently, if he can reproduce his last win at Gosford he will be hard to beat. He sat just off the leaders and showed good acceleration when asked, he loses nothing with Rachel King taking the ride. REFLECTIVITY (2) gets a good claim and will find this easier than the two starts he has had since resuming, a little concerning that he may have to sit parked though.

Race 8: BM70 Handicap 1250m

SEDITION (3) has been up for a while but has been racing consistently barring one howler two back when he was posted wide throughout. He placed here in a similar race last time and gets a similar run in transit here.

FEATHER (10) is resuming, she had her last three runs last prep in Vic so a little hard to line up the form. She has trialed ok and Jac goes on, take her on trust but I would love to see some money for her first. MAGIC CHOIR (4) placed when resuming at Gosford last time after sitting up outside the speed, he had obviously had some issues after being off the scene for more than year but looks to have come back well.  YAMAZAKI (8) resumes for a new stable and has had two trials in preparation for this. She gets a couple of gear changes also, her pattern for the old yard was to get back, watch her also for any significant market moves.
