Canterbury (Fri)

Canterbury Racing Tips -Fri Nov 15

We will be at Canterbury this Friday.

Track: Good 4. Rail: True.

Best Bet: Race 2 – EARTH SONG

Race 1: 3&4YO Maiden Set Weights for Colts Geldings and Entires 1550m

BIGBOYROY (4) will start the shortest priced favourite of the night on the back of three consecutive runner-up finishes to start the prep. He has sat up outside the lead at the latest couple and narrowly been beaten, JMac goes on and hopefully he just rides it like the best horse and controls the race.

LITCHFIELD (3) also has tactical speed, he tried to lead all the way last start, he was very heavily backed but was no match for impressive winner. He may be better suited taking a sit on the fave here from the inside draw. CORPORAL (1) ran on strongly at Newcastle last start, has had 4 weeks between runs and gets the blinkers off. He can improve. EXTERMINATE (2) needs to improve after he didn’t do much when resuming, but he wasn’t suited the way the race was run.

Race 2: 3&4YO Fillies and Mares Set Weights Maiden 1550m

EARTH SONG (6) looks to have come back from the paddock well, she was well back in the run at Newcastle when resuming, had to change course before attacking the line hard into second only beaten just under a length. The extra distance looks to suit.

STARLA (9) is the stablemate that gets a positive jockey change with Avdulla going on, she has had her chances when placing at all three runs this campaign. She will be giving them a start and needs everything to go right. IRISH ANGEL (7) rounds out the trifecta for Waller in our selections, she also gets a positive rider change with Nash going on. She needs to improve a few lengths on what she has shown in two runs this prep. OXIDIZATION (1) has the wide draw to overcome, decisions will have to be made early, hopefully they are positive as I don’t think she can win if they go back at the start.

Race 3: 3YO Maiden Handicap 1200m

Plenty of unknowns here as 6 of the 13 3YO’s are lining up for the first time at the races. MISS SPITEFUL (8) looks the best of the raced brigade from the Gai/Bott yard, she sat outside the leader and stuck on well for second on debut at Hawkesbury behind the more fancied stablemate, the horse that finished fourth that day has since come out and won at Wyong.

Where to look? Watch for any money for debutants INDIGENOUS (10) and AJAAYEB (9). L’COSMO (5) has placed at 5 of 6 runs gets the winkers on for the first time and will be giving them a start. Tough race.

Race 4: BM72 Handicap 1550m

A small field but I wouldn’t surprised if any one of the 8 returned to the winner’s stall. SOLDIER OF LOVE (2) is getting close to w win, all three runs this campaign have been good, placing at the lst couple. He draws to get the perfect run behind the leader, just needs even luck.

LIVE THE MOMENT (5) has been runner-up in four of his last five, they have put the blinkers on for the first time to try and go one better. DONANDKIM (7) has won three in a row, progressing through the grades nicely from a maiden win at Bathurst fresh to a Class 2 win at Goulburn last time, he deserves a crack in the city. He has proven that he can work in his races so the outside barrier is of little concern. I expect BULLET FLY (8) to be ridden further back with the blinkers off tonight, he was good at Gosford last time when up on the speed, a little worrying that he has been up for so long.

Race 5: BM70 Handicap 1900m

KENTUCKY TORNADO (9) is an interesting runner resuming for the Waller yard, he comes up rom Victoria where he had been racing consistently last prep. She is officially first-up at 1900m, I would think Waller knows what he is doing with her and has been given a trial recently, albeit a poor one. I would love to see some money for her, hard to line-up her form from last prep.

CALIFORNIAFIREBIRD (4) looks the leader, he had to work too hard last time three-wide when unable to cross but stuck on well for second. He doesn’t have a lot of dash and will want to create a genuine tempo throughout. BRILLIANT MIND (6) was close-up last time, he will also push forward early. He needs to get cover, I doubt he can sit parked around here over 1900m and win. ZAUNKONIG (1) gets the good 3kg claim and looks the other leader in the race, his win in the Bathurst Cup three starts back was impressive.

Race 6: BM70 Handicap Fillies and Mares 1200m

SPECIAL SNAP (7) was to be ridden more conservatively last start, the beaten margin was more than 4 lengths but she never got into the race. She draws the inside tonight in an easier race back against the girls, I expect that the draw and drop in class will see her settle a lot closer.

ALL SASSITUDE (5) was a brilliant winner at Goulburn last start by more than 3 lengths. She had the perfect sit, was held-up slightly before angling for the run and exploded when clear. If she can be saved for one late run, she might have too much speed. INVINCIANO (3) ked everywhere but the last stride at Gosford last time, she carries less weight here with the claim and will be trying to land on the bunny again. BRAZILICA (2) is an interesting runner from the Waller yard, she only had one run last prep and was sent to the paddock and resumes today. She has trialed ok but would like to see some money for her, she has obviously had some issues?

Race 7: 5YO and Up BM76 Handicap 1250m

It looks an open race on paper for the older horses, play wide in the second last leg of the Quaddie. DISCUSSIONS (1) drops a stack in class for this, he resumed at Rosehill in a much harder race than this. He had a nice sit behind the leaders but never saw daylight in the straight, he was beaten 2 lengths but undoubtedly should have almost won the race.

OAKFIELD TWILIGHT (2) is racing very consistently this prep, he has won three of his last five and was runner-up last start at Rosehill. He looks the leader and will give a sight if afforded some cheap sectionals early. SONDELON (3) is resuming and has trialed well enough, he will probably want further and happy to take him on if he is in single figures. I’M TEELING YA (6) travels up the Hume, he has the horror draw but will get back anyway, it will need to be a peach of a ride from the in-form T Berry.

Race 8: BM70 Handicap 1100m

THROUGH THE CRACKS (1) is resuming. He has shown plenty of ability in winning four of his first 6 starts, he looks to have come back well with two recent trials. He will be giving them a start and needs everything to go right, look for him late.

KAWAIKINI (3) is resuming with the blinkers off, she has a terrific record when racing fresh with 3 wins from 5 starts. She gets the blinkers off and should be settling mid-field. HE’S A HOTSHOT (4) won three of his first 6 starts, he wasn’t beaten far in a recent trial and will be up on the speed. UNDER THE THUMB (7) is racing well this prep, he went to Coonabarabran last time and won the feature sprint race on Cup Day. It was a peach of a ride by G Ryan that day, he was ridden for luck and the gap opened at the right time, he showed great acceleration to charge through and win easily.
