Track: Good 4. Rail: Out 4m.
2:38pm Race 6
#3 HUETOR (Best)
3:53pm Race 8
#4 ELEVEN ELEVEN
Race 6: THE Q22 2200M
HUETOR (3) upset the mighty ZAAKI last start in the G1 Doomben 10 000 over 2100m. He is at his peak now and bodes wins over 2250 and 2400 so the extra 100m of this race is no concern. A good track and a bit of speed on should see this fellow storm home again.
HOPEFUL (11) looks the main danger after winning the Listed Lord Mayors cup over 2000m last start. He is proven over this distance but unproven on good ground so that might be the chink in his armor. Drawn well to box seat and should get every chance. MAXIMAL (9) ran 2nd to HUETOR last start and finished in front of ZAAKI. He’s drawn out which isn’t ideal and he is yet to post a win beyond 1600 but if he reproduces that run again he’ll be in the finish.
(9) HUETOR: $3.20
Race 8: THE STRADBROKE HANDICAP 1400M
ELEVEN ELEVEN (4) flew home in an even tempo race last start to finish 0.3L 3rd to APACHE CHASE in the G1 Kingsford Smith 1300. Gets out to his pet trip now and has won at this distance 3 years in a row at the Gold Coast Magic Millions. H Bowman sticks, a good track suits and he should get every chance from a soft draw to sit midfield and blouse them late.
APACHE CHASE (3) won his first G1 last start over 1300 but had his own way in front. He won’t get that here with BUFFALO RIVER and ROTHFIRE likely to push forward to lead. He is a track specialist and has won 6 times at the distance so he’ll look the winner again but can he hold them all off again? ALLIGATOR BLOOD (5) ran 2nd to SOXAGON (6) last start over 1300 in the BRC SPRINT in quicker time than APACHE CHASE ran in the G1 Kingsford Smith 1300. Both look chances here. AYRTON (11) is the unknown with the gun Jamie Kah aboard and being trained by the inform PRICE KENT team. I’m risking him as the drop back from 1800 to 1400 and the 5 weeks between runs is the ideal lead up to this race. VILANA (17) is an emerging 3 year old that won over this distance last start. He’s drawn well and with a featherweight of 50.5kgs could fill a place for the exotics.
(4) ELEVEN ELEVEN: $6.50
