Bendigo Racing Tips – Wed Oct 9
We will be at Bendigo this Wednesday.
Track: Good 4. Rail: Out 5m entire circuit.
Best Bet: Race 6 – BACKPEDAL
Race 1: Maiden Plate Set Weights 1300m
TOFFEE TONGUE (11) placed at Sandown three months ago on debut and was sent straight to the paddock. She resumes as favourite three weeks ago at Cranbourne and although she was beaten 3 lengths, there were encouraging signs. She made some ground late and was a little green in the straight, gets out in trip and should run on hard.
LIBERATA (10) showed plenty of ability when charging home from a mile back on debut. She was big odds that day though, drops down to 54kg here and the extra distance suits. FLOREAT PICA (8) is well travelled and has raced in three states in 5 starts, he resumed and was narrowly beaten in SA after getting back in the run. BANQUO (6) resumes for the new stable, watch the betting with him. Where does the speed come from?
Race 2: BM64 Handicap 1400m
SPRING BOUQUET (2) is a Kiwi that has come across to our shores, still officially trained across the ditch she has had one run since arriving. She was back and wide and copped some interference in the run home before balancing up and charging home. The big track here should suit, look for her late.
IN HEART’S WAKE (6) resumed in this grade at Kyneton three weeks ago, sat up outside the lead before hitting the front only to be run down late. She will be better for the run and will go forward again but may have to sit parked. LEILA’S STAR (7) handles all conditions well, she was a dominant winner on the heavy track at Coleraine last time. She has been very consistent this prep. ROEDERER (9) will be giving them a start, she didn’t have much luck early last time and never got into the race.
Race 3: BM70 Handicap 2400m
QUEEN LEONORA (4) has been very consistent this prep and in an even field, am happy to be with her. She placed two in a row before winning here at the track in a BM64 last time, she will be up on the speed again and making her own luck.
VELLASPRIDE (3) doesn’t win out of turn, he has only won 2 of 17 but has run second on 7 occasions! Again, he looked the winner last start after running on well, loomed up but again found one better. THE DELPHI (2) will find this easier than last start and jumps up in trip from 1800m to the mile and a half, he should be rock hard fit third-up today. SIRKOS (1) led early before taking a sit when well beaten at Mornington last start, out to a more suitable trip here I expect that with the blinkers on for the first time, he will try and lead all the way.
Race 4: Fillies and Mares BM70 Handicap 1500m
SEEWHATSHEBRINGS (3) had been very consistent throughout her last prep before failing in the Group One SA Oaks, she resumed at 1450m at Kyneton three weeks ago and ran over the top of them. That looked a little short for her, she has the class but just needs the right tempo.
HEART OF GRACE (2) is an interesting runner, the former UK trained mare is now with Anthony Freedman, was heavily backed at her Australian debut but failed on the heavy track. Watch the betting again with her. SOVEREIGN AWARD (4) is resuming, she won her maiden by 7 last prep and a synthetic track BM64 race by more than 2 lengths, would be a good training performance to get her right for this fresh at 1500m.
CAILLOUX (7) was ok after being wide throughout over the 1400m at Flemington, it’s almost an impossible task being off the track there without cover over that trip.
Race 5: Super VOBIS 3YO Handicap 1400m
ASTRAEUS (4) is a colt prepared by the in-form Busuttin/Young stable. He was a well supported favourite to get his maiden win at start four last time at Benalla, did plenty wrong in the run and still ran on hard to win by more than a length with 6 back to third. He was very impressive to the eye and can take the next step.
ROYALTY (6) is also a last start maiden winner, his was here at the track. Starting favourite, he was perfectly ridden behind the speed and although he got the job down, he was entitled to win by further. The blinkers go on for the first time today. GRINZINGER ALLEE (5) sat up outside the speed over the grueling 1400m at Flemington last time and wasn’t beaten farm he led throughout to win his debut and the winkers are off. Expect him to be making his own luck up on the speed. NEED NEW FRIENDS (8) is a last start maiden winner on debut, she over-raced back in the field and ran on hard. She was well supported and started a clear favourite in the betting, if she settles better she can step up to this no problem.
Race 6: 3YO BM64 Handicap 1100m
BACKPEDAL (8) won her maiden on debut by a crushing 8 lengths on the synthetic two starts back, she as then thrown in the deep end at Group Three level at the Valley and stuck on well on the speed in what was a terrific effort. The inside draw looks the only hurdle back in trip, the bigger track suits.
RUMBLE DOLL (3) is not officially fresh but has had 7 weeks off since being outclassed at Group Three level last start. She has speed and should sit outside the leader here today. VARDA (7) appeared to have every chance against the girls last time, she has placed at both runs this time in but without excuses. Happy to take her on. CIELO D’ORO (2) was easy in the betting on debut and was displaced as favourite, he defied the betting drift however and ran on well from mid-field to win. That race has already produced a subsequent winner also so the form line is holding up.
Race 7: BM64 Handicap 1100m
SORA (11) won her maiden at the Valley after leading throughout, she then pulled up lame at her first go out of that grade as favourite and was sent to the paddock. She has jumped out well, expect her to be very well backed.
MADAM SUPERIOR (10) is very consistent and her only missed placing was way back at her debut. She resumes here and has good tactical speed, expect her to go forward form the wide draw.
CAN’TFORGETYOU (9) bolted in to win her maiden at start three, she didn’t debut until she was a 5YO so obviously had some issues. She will get back but showed a good turn-of-foot to get that first win last time. GOT THE MOVES (1) chased hard resuming in a harder race than this and wasn’t beaten far, he is a perfect 2/2 when second-up and drops in class. Look for him late.
Race 8: BM70 Handicap 1600m
I really like the chances of BLENDERS EDITION (8) in the last and expect him to be well backed. He won his first two and then obviously had some issues and was off the scene for more than 2 years. He was transferred to the Robert Hickmott yard and resumed at Caulfield in a harder race than this, was a little one-paced but hit the line well behind the highly-impressive Harbour Views. No doubt he would have needed the run, gets out to the mile and Willow jumps on.
WAR TIGER (2) is an interesting runner having his first Australian start for the Lloyd Williams team, he won two races on the synthetic in the UK, he is fresh off a 5 month-break. MICKEY BLUE EYES (1) has been ok at two runs back, he will find this easier and gets a couple of gear changes. FRENCH SUCCESS (10) has won half of her six career starts, she was beautifully ridden when not going around a horse to win last time but doesn’t map as well here. Place only for her.
