SUGGESTED BET #1: MELBOURNE VICTORY TO WIN @ $2.65

Melbourne Victory have started the season poorly but this is the type of game, against an arch enemy, which Kevin Muscat’s team thrive in. With virtually a full squad – minus James Donachie – to pick from, Muscat’s men head into the clash knowing they have only lost once to Adelaide in 12 recent A-League matches. Victory are undefeated in 6/6 previous encounters at this venue, having not lost here since 2013. They won both encounters in Adelaide last season. The Reds have been solid thus far but they only beat a poor Brisbane team in the dying stages last week while Victory have played two very strong teams in rounds one and two. I fancy backing Victory to win here as I think, with their backs against the wall, they’ll come out and put in a really good performance.

SUGGESTED BET #2: MELBOURNE CITY TO WIN @ $1.55

Melbourne City have won 6/7 previous league encounters with Wellington and have not lost to the Phoenix in Melbourne since 2013 – a run of five games. They are yet to concede under Warren Joyce, look very solid at the back and through the middle of the park. All the early signs so far are very positive, and you’d think confidence will be growing among the camp. Wellington are yet to show me anything to suggest they’re a different side under new coach Darije Kalezic to previous seasons. They did scare Sydney a little last week but you always felt Sydney were in control. This will be their second road trip in the space of six days and they don’t have a great record in Melbourne, which could play a part in City winning, which I think they will do.

SUGGESTED BET #3: UNDER 2.5 GOALS @ $2.05

First Sydney derby of the season and I expect it to be a really tight game. Sydney conceded two goals last week which will not have made Graham Arnold very happy, so I except his team to be very defensively minded early in the match, not looking to concede. Western Sydney have conceded three but away from home, under a former defender in Hayden Foxe, I expect them to play more defensively as well. They may have more of the ball then the Sky Blues, but I doubt they will try too many risky passes knowing how good Sydney are on the break. 3/3 previous Sydney home games against the Wanderers have been unders, while there have been four clean sheets in the previous three games. Always a risky play in the A-League but I’m confident goals will be scarce in this match.

SUGGESTED BET #4: NEWCASTLE JETS +1.5 TOTAL TEAM GOALS @ $2.25

Upheaval central in Brisbane right now with more off-field dramas engulfing the club during the week. We have seen before that this sort of thing has the ability to galvanize the playing group, but it’s a lot easier to create that mentality when you’re playing good football. Brisbane are not and don’t look fit, especially in the latter stages of matches. We all know how good a record Newcastle have in Brisbane, and I get the feeling the Jets will run Roar off their feet. I’ve been very impressed with the way they’ve started the season. If they’d have taken their chances last week they would have beaten Perth comfortably. The Jets scored eight goals in three games against Brisbane last season, and with Roar already conceding four in two games so far, I think the Jets can continue their scoring ways here.

SUGGESTED BET #5 OVER 3.5 GOALS @ $2.00

Both teams have been scoring and conceding plenty in the first two games and I expect that trend to continue here. 4/5 previous encounters at this venue have seen over 3.5 goals scored. The Mariners have already conceded seven while Perth have conceded four. With both sides desperate for the three points this could turn into a shootout as neither side know how to defend. Should be a great match to watch with goals galore. Fingers crossed.
